Wh en the gat e dr opped on the first 125cc Expert moto, Behr ens lound himself behind Kevin Po pea ko and Brian Battaglia , Behrens moved pa st Bauaglia and set hi s sights o n Popeako. After stalking Po pe a ko lor three laps, Behrens mo tor ed past through the thick sawdust section in 'he back woods. Popeako sett led into seco nd . wh ile Battaglia struggled to ho ld o n the third spot, As the rno to carne to a dose. Bauaglia gave way l O a hard chargi ng Dave Brill , but was sti ll able to turn back a last lap cha llenge by Keith Petri . Behrens too k ' he chec kered, lo ll o wed by Popeako, Brill. Judge cruised in third followed by Wrigh l and Ferka ns. By Ihe halfway mark, BehrellS pulled away · lrom Boa,man and had the race under co ntrol. J udge closed on Boa ,man, wh ile Ferkins and Wrigh l swapped fourth place.
