As the gate fell for the first mo to, Billy Champion used his holeshot ability to lead the large pack of novi ces on -the opening lap. Taking over, after studying Champion 's li nes for a few comers. was J oey Prais. As Prais moved into the lead. the pack began to sort themselves out, jockeying for the top five positions were Steve Waltman, Mark Fisher, and Ed Vitelli. Richardson had been crowded out on the star t and was currently in 11th. H e began to cut and thrust his way through the pack improving his pos ition up to the number six slot by the end of th e second lap. Fisher had now ad vanced into seco nd, dropp ing Champion back to third with jeff Young and Ed Vitelli in front of Richardson. Up a t the front, Prais was powering away from Young and Champion, while Richardson was dosing on th e pan. As th e moto wound down in th e closing lap. Prais took a com fortable win o ver Young, who was holding off Rich ardso n for second. Vitelli slipped by Champion to fourth. behind Richardson o n th e last lap. • Richardson was primed and read y for action as the ga lt: dr opped to sta rt mota two. nailing the holeshot. As th e rider, bumped a nd shoved going into th e first tum, Young again found himself near th e from of th e pack with Vitelli, Fisher. and Pra is in close company. Young sta yed with Richardson th e en tire moto, wh ile Prais was working hard in an auempt to m ove up in the ranks. Prais eventually 'passed Fisher a nd then Vitelli. but You ng proved too to ugh 10 handle and kep t Prais out of the: win ner's circl e. Richardson, goi n~3 - 1 won th e overall. with Young scoring a pall of seco nds for second overall. Prais co mbined a first moto win wit h his second moto third 10 tak e third overall.
