As the gate fell for the first mo to, Billy
Champion used his holeshot ability to lead
the large pack of novi ces on -the opening lap.
Taking over, after studying Champion 's li nes

moved into the lead. the pack began to sort
themselves out, jockeying for the top five
positions were Steve Waltman, Mark Fisher,
and Ed Vitelli. Richardson had been crowded
out on the star t and was currently in 11th.
H e began to cut and thrust his way through
the pack improving his pos ition up to the
number six slot by the end of th e second lap.
Fisher had now ad vanced into seco nd,
dropp ing Champion back to third with jeff
Young and Ed Vitelli in front of Richardson.
Up a t the front, Prais was powering away from
Young and Champion, while Richardson was
dosing on th e pan.
As th e moto wound down in th e closing
lap. Prais took a com fortable win o ver Young,
who was holding off Rich ardso n for second.
Vitelli slipped by Champion to fourth. behind
Richardson o n th e last lap. •

himself near th e from of th e pack with Vitelli,
