Cycle/Dadbacked Mike Harris used consistency as . the key to victory in the 250cc Expert class, while Honda 125-pilot John Newhouse slammed the tenacious 125cc Intermediates at Owyhee M/C's- Stadium Cross motocross. Pro Circui t!Jack Oberbillig/Boise Honda-supported Corey Barton, in his first race in two yeaars, pulled Steve Henry, Mark Hall, Harris, John Palleria and the rest off the start. Barton remounted quickly to stab and rip through th e dusty pack to challenge Palleria as Harris made his move on Henry to take over th e lead. Suddenly, within a couple laps, Barton jumped the double to vault past Harris into first. Barton built a cushion over Harris and Palleria to take the win, with Hall finishing fourth. Henry severely injured his foot and was unable to complete the moto, . Hall and Barton again clashed at the beginning of the second mota, this time lastin g one more set of jumps before Barton went down and forcing Harris off the track. Hall cruised out front with Harris wi ldly attacking the track to sli ce through the pack, taking second and the overall victory. Barton did not finish after taking a hard hit over a jump. While Michael Oliver blitzed both 125cc Expert motos over brother Kenneth Oliver and Jamie Steelsmith, the hottest 125cc action of the evening was in the Intermediate and Beginner classes. Newhouse held control of the first Intermediate moto until the very end, when Pro Circui t! Jeff Hicks/Boise Honda-backed Kip Smith sliced into the lead. Newhouse came back in the secondmoto to win convincingly. After winning the first 125cc Beginner mota, Honda-mounted Kirk Moore bailed in the second.
