Mounted aboard a screaming Kawasaki KX80, SLO City Cycles/Shoei/Fox Racing- Faria fast at Napa Speedway By R.C . J ones NAPA, CA, J UL Y 30 Dave Faria Jr., sponsored by Rich mond Yama ha -BMWlTruman Bailey and Frank Diaz, won the Coors Invita tional Championship with an eveni ng of perfect rides, receiving the maximum of 15 points. Following in second with 14 points was Mike Delacy and third went to J ini Sisemore with 13 points. Faria has been on the comeback trail after an injury kept him out of . speedway for two years. For the past two seasons Faria has worked to get his skills back in top Iorm, and tonight's rides let everyone know that Faria is back. Faria was the only rider to move into th e last round with a perfect score as the other top riders had their problems early. Sisemore and Ingels could only muster seconds in th e first round as both riders coming from th e outside gates found little traction on the dry track. Robert Curry, Delacy , and John Houston Jr. along with Faria picked up first round wins. In round two H ouston beat Ingels in a thriller while Faria, Delacy and Sisemore were win ners. Ro und three went pretty smooth as Faria really cranked it up, with Delacy, Sisemore and Ingels winning as Houston dropped a point back behind Delacy in their heat. In round four the excitement started. In the first heat Houston gated poorly finding' himself behind Steve Martin and Harland Bast Jr. as they headed down the back chute. Houston rallied and went flying around the narrow Napa track passing first Bast then during the last lap Martin, from the outside cushion in a remarkable run to the front. Scott Yarbrough won his first race in ' the next heat and Faria received his 12th point in his four th win in the following heat. Delacy dropped his first point in this heat by losing to Faria as a grea t battle ensued for the four laps. Faria was in the groove, riding ei th er inside or outside, winning handily. . At the end of round four, Ingels broke the tape and was disqualified, dropping him out of contention. In the last round, Curry picked up his second win, and Parsons won his race in the first two heats. Delacy , esco rted by Ingels, won his heat and waited to see how Faria did in the final. It took three starts to finish the last race , and on every gate Faria took the lead from his pole position and went on to win convincingly over Sisemore. Sisemore fell on the first try and had to ride Ingels' bike on the restart. Houston was knocked over the hi!?jh side in the second start, injuring his wrist enough that he cou ld not continue. When the dust cleared though it was Faria with a perfect night, three great starts in the last race and a deserving trophy to the winner. Results . C'SH IP: 1. Dave Far ia Jr . (Wes) 15 pt s; 2.
