BACK ON TRACK
but for former GNC Champion
Jared Mees, it was business
as usual. Mees (Indian Motor-
cycles/Progressive Insurance,
Indian FTR750) and defending
champion Briar Bauman (Indian
Motorcycles/Progressive Insur-
ance, Indian FTR750) finished
1-2 both nights.
The first night Jeffrey Carver
(Happy Trails/DPC Racing/
Bryan Bigelow, Indian FTR750)
looked to be a force, but two
laps into the race there was con-
tact between Carver and Mees
with Carver hitting the ground in
turn one. "Me and Carver came
together, and the track was so
slick, we tapped a little bit and
he went down, unfortunately,"
said Mees. "Off the restart, I just
ran my own race. The bike was
so phenomenal; we made a few
clicks just before the race and it
paid off huge for us."
The restart found Mees lead-
ing over Sammy Halbert (Cool-
beth-Nila Racing/Roof Systems
of Dallas, TX, Indian FTR750)
and Brandon Robinson (Roof
Systems of Dallas, TX, Indian
FTR750). Bauman worked his
way forward to take second on
the last lap of what turned out to
be a 37-lap race.

fter a four-month delay
due to coronavirus restric-
tions, the 2020 American
Flat Track (AFT) season opened
at the Volusia Speedway Park
with a two-day event. Billed as the
world's fastest dirt half-mile, the
track has seen motorcycle action
during "Bike Week" for over 30
years, but the all new AFT was
making its first appearance.
Hot mid-summer temperatures
were matched by two nights
of intense racing in all three of
the AFT classes. American Flat

National Championship with the
