Cerciello clobbers Trail-Way ST By Len Breech HANOV ER , PA, JUNE 4 Tom Cerciello took hi s first win of the year in th e 600cc Expert class in a close, hard-fought battle with Scott Mohan at Trail-Wa y. And with his onl y major competition , Ra n d y T exter, at the Louisville National he had ano ther easy tim e winning the 750cc Expert class. Alt hough Claro ence Bull ba ttled him for a good part of th e heat, he had to scratch due to ignition problems. Whi le Cerciello was taking two wins, Georgie Price took hi s third stra igh t 250cc Expert fin al , while his father, George . took his first-ever win in the Senior class. The 600cc Expert class was a littl e strange, as the order remained the same in the top five or six spots, and they a lso ran and finished the way they were gridded out of the two heats. Cerciello took the lead from Mohan, Price, Paul Crumling an d Dave Duhaine. Mohan ke{lt Cerciello no less than five yards in front of him , with P rice several more yards back in a secure third spot. Crumling and Duhaine battled closely for fourth place throughout , with Crumling taking th e upper hand. Wh en Cerci ello took th e lead from Max George as the 750cc Expert class rumbled down the back stra igh t, it was all over, except for a break down. George then slipped back to a battle for second with hi s brother, Eri c, and J oe Gatley, th at Max took over Gat ely. Cerci ello looked like he was going to tak e th e 250cc Expert class earlier as he grabbed th e lead from Mike Klopp, Georgie Price and Duhaine. Price moved mto second on th e next la p, with Duhaine repl acin g Klopp for third o n th e next go 'ro und. Cerciell o started to drift backwards around halfway, as first Price took over th e lead as th ey hit the third turn, and Duhaine went into second just pa st halfway. While Price was p ulling away, Cerciello got into a battle with Klo pp and MIke Varnes duri ng the last half of the race for third. Ken Yoder took the 250cc Amateur lead right from the start from Merv Sensenig, Chuck Wrecsics and Eddie Hidden. Hidden shot into second as the y came off turn four on the third lap, with Wrecsics moving into third in the same spot on the following lap. In th e lat e stages both Hidden and Wrecsics started to close up Yoder 's gap, but sti ll came up short. Kevin Varnes had a fairl y easy time winning th e 200cc Amateur class again. Mike Sponseller made his first start in over six months and fini shed 15 yards behind Varnes after taking second from Paul Southard. • Results 65 : 1. Mike Hacker (Kaw). 55 : 1.
