Vallier tags AscotMXwin By Ken Faught 34 GA R DE NA , CA, JUNE 3 Yamaha-mounted Do n Vallier u sed two great starts to help him beat Tim W illia m s and Kenn y York a nd captu re the win in division one of the 250cc Begi n ner class at Ascot Park. First -mo te action saw Rod n ey Jensen ho leshot York , P a u l . Kowalsky, Williams and Joe Umibe. Umibe q u ickly 'shot p ast Williams, only to tangle with Kowalsky, sending b o th r iders to th e groun d . W i lli a m s n a r ro wl y avoided the acci dent and took over th ird wi th Vallier and J err y Weeks close behind. York soon found his way back to fou rth as Will iams and Vall ier went flyi ng by into seco n d and third. Vallier again bettered his position by passing bo th Williams and J en sen to ta ke th e lead . After being knocked to seco nd Jensen started m aking mista kes which a llowed Willia ms to ta ke over the runner-up position. At the che ckers Va llier took the win over Williams , Jensen, York, and Weeks. At th e start of th e second moto Jensen again ga ted perfectly to lead Vall ier, Wi ll i am s, York a n d Kowalsky around the first tu rn. Vallier wasted little time in getting around J ensen and within two lap s h eld the lead. As Va llier was p ulling away Je nse n fell victim to Williams ' as the Kawasaki pilot motored his way into seco nd. On th e final lap York dropped Je nsen back one more position to his final spot. Vallier took the runway win and the overall ahead of Williams, York, J ens en and Kowal sky. I n 60 0cc a ction Jason Shirey holesh o t J eff Willoh in bo th motos with Willoh taki ng over the lead eac h time within the firs t few laps. The second moto saw the most action with Pa u l I to looping his bike at the start and coming back to take third over J ay Theys a nd Reginald Mitche ll. Up fro nt Shirey chased Willoh for most o f the race wi th Willoh eventually pulling away and taking the win. Willoh took the overall win with Shirey second over Ito, Theys and Mi tchell. In the 50cc class Corey H oeft swe p t both rnotos, topping Shawn Igern ic, Ch ris Menatt and Joey Gallagher. H oeft hol esho t each tim e and steadily increased his lead over Igernic who was doing th e same to Men a tt. In the second moto bo th Menan and Gallagher DNF, giving each rider th e same amount of points. H oeft . claimed th e win with h is I- I score over Igernic' s 2-2. Ross Ma eda (Su z), Hubbard hauls at Perris Motocross By David Procida P ERRIS, CA, MAY 28 Bobby Hubbard won the secon d moto over Richard Vargo to ta ke the o vera ll victory in the 250cc Beginner class today at P erris Raceway. In moto on e Raceway H on da pi lot Vargas n ailed the h o lesh o t and wi th H u bbard on his h eel s, pulled away from Honda-mounted Ma rk Schultz in third. The order remained the same until lap five w hen Bra d Dennis got by for third. Late in the moto Pro Circuit/ O 'Neal-sponsored H ubbard p art ed .com pa n y with his bike, b ut rem ounted q uickly and held onto second p lace. In moto two, Vargas once again led the pack into th e first corner. Hubbard stuck to his rear fen der a nd on lap six, took advantage of a Vargas bobble in a tight corner. Hubbard quickly jumped into th e lead a nd h eld o n for the win wit h Vargas taking seco nd overa ll a nd Den nis going 3-3 for th ird overall. In th e Open Pro class a pair o f AT Ks were seen in th e lead in both m o tos . Scott Brown led four-stro ke ATK-mounted Willie'Musgrave to the checkers in moto o ne , w hi le Bria n Da vy held do wn th e num ber three spot. I n moto ' two it wa s Torcosponsored Musgrave as th e rider to ca tch. Musgr ave powered to th e wi n ahead of Brown and Vargas for th e overa ll win. In the first rn o to of th e 250cc B Stock class H arris shot into th e lead chased by J eff Bergm an. Berg man took the lead on lap one as H arris drop ped to third and th en back to . fourt h . By the third lap of action, H arr is had gotten h is act togeth er an d took over the front p osi tion to remain th ere a t the checkered flag. In moto two, Bergm an , H arris and Scott Atwell led th e pack as Atwell squeezed by H arr is. H arri s went to the outside and moved by Atwell ta king over seco n d. But by the seco nd lap , Harris was in co ntrol a n d p ulled out a n ice lead by th e finish. Bergman hel d off a charging Atwell for second. Harris returned in the 250cc B Mod ified class to 'go 1· 1. The first m o to of the 125cc A Stock class saw-J oh n Sier in th e fro nt spot Iollowed by Bryan Smith . Sm ith went into the lead by lap two and stretched it to eight seco n ds over Sier. The finish saw Smith ta ke the win 12 seconds a head of Sier. The second m oto fou nd J a y Wagner out front fo llowed by Travis Kobush. Kobush rode o n Wagner's rear fe nder as th e pai r charged arou n d th e natural-terrain co urse. By lap four, Kob ush had taken th e lead, a n d the duo ro de side-by-side 'over a pair of ta b letops. Kob ush th en opened the throttle and stretched ou t th e lead over Wagne r. Keith Bro wn was th e fro nt runner on the start of mota one of th e 125cc A Modifi ed class . Randa eventua lly . took over, but Derr ick Roe worked h is way into the lead on lap four an d grab bed the win followed by Randa , Mar k H a r s h m a n , Kobus h a nd Wagner. Ran da holeshot th e second m oto but by the first turn Roe h ad sq ueezed by to ta ke the lead. Randa push ed Roe around the co urse in th e early la ps but Roe stretched a co m fortable lead by the checkers.
