Mabery hot at coldLACRMX By Terry Rezek PALMDALE , CA, MAY 29-30 J eff Mab ery came fro m behind, way behind, to win the Cali forn ia Racing Club's 250cc Pro race at a cold Los An geles County Raceway d uring Memo rial Da y weekend. Chris Radzinski had th e bestI ine off the sta rt of th e 250cc P ro race on Su nday and put hi s Yama ha into the lead. T he co ld see me d to affect Mabery, also a board a Ya maha. Wh en the ga te dropped for mo to one, he was frozen in place and left the line last. H owever, by la p fi ve, Mabery was pushing Radzinski and too k the lead by th e end of the lap. After that, it was a n easy cruise to victory. In rn oto two, Mabery grabbed the hol esho t and led th e entire mo to for an easy win and th e overa ll vic tory, Radzinski ear ned a pair of deuces for seco nd overall. The 125cc class had five ace riders. In the Pro race, Mike Pascarella ra n away wit h both mo tos for an easy win. Pasca rella a lso led the 11th Annual Dunesto wn Classic Grand Prix on Monday fro m the second lap o n and picked up another win. Je ff Barbacovi domina ted th e 125cc Intermediate class again , winni ng both mot os with ease. Barbacovi was also back on Monda y and led the 125cc In term edia te class from wir eto-wire. Watters didn 't ride on Monday but Tony Su lek, who had taken a third in Sunday's MX, was glad to fill in a nd took th e overall 125cc Novi ce win on Mo nday. T here were two di visions o f 125cc Beg i n n er s on Sunday. Da nny Peterson took both motos in division two a nd Clar ence Abbott led di vision o ne across the line both times. Abbott returned Monda y and took another first in the GP. Ryan Carlisle hasn 't raced in a while and, when he did, it was on a I25cc. Carlisle showed up in th e 250cc Novi ce class today and put on a dazzling exhibition (which he was to repeat at Monday's Grand Prix ). Carlisle exploded off the line in moto one a nd o pened up a 15 second lead in three laps. He fin ished mo re than 25 seconds ahead of Bill Savro who, in turn, was way ahead of third. Carlisle was napping in rrioto two and was fourth off the tine. In th e ' th ird turn , he passed th e top three rid ers with a single mov e and turned the mo to into another rout, . Sreker blasts Perris Motocross By David Procida PERRIS, CA, MAY 21 Back from Europe, G oa t Breker romped to a pair o f moto wins' in the Open Pro class today. at Perri s Raceway. In mota one Breker powered his Pro Ci rcu it H on da into th e first corner ahead of the pack. Running in the number two spot was fell ow P ro Circu it pilot Ulf J ohansson ab oard a H onda C R25 0. Cl o se behind Johansson were a pa ir of . AT Ks ridden by Mike McLain wit h T orco-sponsored Will ie Mu sgrave breathin g heavily dow n his back. Mu sgrave muscled his ATK406 into third ahead of McLain and set hi s sights o n J o ha nsson. Breker was putting di stance o n th e pack and conti nued to open up a ga p until la p five whe n his fro nt tir e rode u p a nd over a hi gh banked co rner. J oh ansson took ad vantage of th is m isha p to ta ke o ver the lead with Musgrave and McLain also getting by Breker. Breker finall y go t hi s H onda fired up, bu t was now in last as he returned to the race. Up front, Musgrave was pressuring J o hansso n and mad e his move over the tabletop jump. Mu sgrave not on ly clear ed the tabletop, but flew over and past th e Ho nda rid er and into the lead. Breker had mov ed up through the pack and passed McLain for fourth. Musgrav e p lowed his front end into a soft berm and went down , giving th e lead back to johansson, wh o held on for half a lap before being passed by Breker. Musgrave recovered quickl y and was righ t behind J ohansson for a co uple of corners before sli p pi ng by into second. Dauth jams at Saylands MX By Mike Vancil FREMONT, CA, MAY 20 J ohn Dauth swep t th rough both Open Pro Class mot os to take the overall wi n to night at Baylands Raceway Park. In th e first moto Dauth had hi s hardest tu ssle as Ma lt Arena grabbed th e hol eshot and was not abo ut to su rren de r th e lead. Dauth kept working on him but was co nti n uo us ly ha r ass ed b y Kaw a sakimounted Gary Rabe. Late in the rno to Dau th did pressure Arena on th e approach to the ta bleto p jump and got the lead. Arena tig hte ned his grasp on second place and held Rabe at bay until the checkers. 37
