Billingsley said. On the last la p,

bea ting Goimarac across the lin e by
a few feet.
The 400 and 600cc Superbi ke races
were the most eventfu l o f the da y.
On th e ninth lap o f th e 400cc race,
Boehm tri ed a last dit ch pass on the
inside of leader Gardner in turn o ne.
Gardner was alread y commi tted to
h is line and th e two riders q uickly
fou nd out th at th ey both cou ld n' t
occ u py the same pl ace at the same
tim e. The resulting co llisio n sent
Gardner sliding o rr into the grass
unhurt. Boehm took the win fol lowed b y Mountain R o adra cing

in th e 250cc Pro class a t Pro Circuit

Perri s Racew ay. Not only were th e
Pros racing for th e reg u la r purse, but
a $100 bounty was o ffered for the first
rid er to clear a new tabletop jump.
In moto o ne Ron Turner holesh ot
and led th e pack o u t onto the track.
Turner swiftly guided his Yamaha
through the bowl corner and made
hi s bid for th e tabletop, bu t co uld
not ~et th e height needed to clear it.
Cagiva rider Mik e Young was close
behind Turner with Eric Browne in
hot pursuit. They were more than
conc erned with each other than th e
tabletop and failed to clear it a lso.
For five laps no one wo uld claim th e
$100 bounty. Then on lap six, Marc
Peters went up and over, clearing th e
jump with just inc hes to spa re.
Meanwhil e, u p at th e fron t, Young
had gone down a nd fell back to fifth
behind Turner, Browne, Arn et a nd
Peters. At th e halfway po int Arnet
had moved ahead of Browne wit h
Young doing th e same a few co rners
later. Arnet reeled in Turner on lap
six, a nd the two riders pulled away
from Young. Amet pressed T urner
but the seasoned vetera n held him
of£. Turner took th e checkered flag
on the nex t la p with Arnet, Young,
Bro wne and Jim Ch amberlain fin ishing in th e top five positio ns.

Bro wne develo ped problem s a nd fell
off th e pace with Fowler now in
fourth : Arnet led a three-m an freight
train head ing for th e finish line and
took th e checkered flag for th e overall
win. Turner 's 1-2 secured h im seco nd
overa ll with Young next in line with
a pa ir of thirds.
Arnet returned to action in the
Open Pro cla ss where he added two
more rnoto wins to hi s total. Greg
Sm ith and Je rry J erkowsky finished
