CA, MAY 22 Suzuk i- mo u nted Sco tt "Tacky" T ak acs overcame a seized engine sustained in practi ce to win the 250cc Juni or class in the fin al ro und o r the CMC/Dod ge Truck s Spri ng MX Classic a t Sunrise Vall ey Cycle Park. The win h elped Ta kacs cl inc h o ne of two series cha mp ions hips; th e o ther ti tie was earned in th e 125cc Junior class desp ite a first moto DNF. At th e start of the fir st 250cc Junior moto Robert Drew rocketed out of th e gate to lead th e pack by three bik e lengths in to th e fir st turn. Takacs, ab oard a borrowed bike, was in second with Kurt Metcalf! Mike Washko and Donny Maeda close behind. The top two immediately sta rted to pull away with Takacs challengi ng Drew for th e lead. As th e d uo ap proached a tabletop j um p Takacs chose a n ou tside lin e a nd £lew past Drew. Drew tried to stuff Takacs in th e next turn , but T a kacs q uickly po wered awa y. As Takacs pulled a way Danny Pach eco mo ved into fourth after passing Wash ko and Maeda . Wh en the checkered £I a~ came ou t Takcacs took th e wi n while Drew pu lled off the track early. " I th ought th at was th e fini sh ," said Drew. " I saw everybody pointing a t me and sudde nly realized wha t I had done." Drew q u ickl y re-entered the trac k to ta ke third behind Metcalf : Wh en the ga te dropped a t the start o r the second mo to Drew again go t a clea n holeshot a hea d of Metcalf, · Ta kacs, Maeda and Pach eco. Takacs was ted no time in disposing o f Metcalf a nd quickl y began na rro wing Drew 's lead. At the halfway po int Takacs ca ug h t Dr ew a nd began ho undi ng him, a nd wi th o nly a few laps remain ing Takacs edge d u p a longside Drew a nd launch ed hi s Suzuki past him off a stad iu m-s tyle jump. Delacy, o ut o r gate th ree, was the q uickest to the turn but Sisemore would not let h im dive to th e inside line. Shawn Rep pert took the ear ly lead over Bobby H edden as the riders sorted th emselves o ut for the first coup le of laps. Delacy slipped past Rocky Robinson into third as Rob inson stayed o n the ou tside and went a fte r H edd en . Sisem ore s taye d behind Delacy as he raced past Steve Martin.
