Benedetti buries 'em atAscotMX By Ken Faught GARD EN A, CA, MAY 20 A&:L suzuki-sponso red David Ben edet ti used two so lid starts to win th e 250cc Intermedia te class in ro u nd six o f th e C MC /Dodge T rucks Spring MX Cl assic at Ascot Park. First m o to action saw Ben edetti get a n ea rl y jump on th e gate to lead James Whiteh ead, Ken Mucciolo , Jim Dom ini ci a n d Kell y Myers. Ben edetti slo wly started to pull away as Whitehead slid o u t, a llowing Mu cciol o to ta ke over seco nd. Whitehead recovered in fifth . Bened etti soon built up almost a five-second lead while Domin ici stalked Mu cci 010. Mucciolo increased his pace only to have the H onda p ilo t do th e same. On the last lap Dominici dove underneath Mucci olo in th e back section an d moved into the runnerup slo t. Mucciol o tri ed to repass in th e fin al tum, but Dominici immediatel y slammed the door. Benedet ti cruised to a n easy win followed by Dom in ici , Mu cciolo , Myer s a nd Whiteh ea d. When th e ga te drop ped at th e start of the seco nd moto T ony Fuller shot out front to lead Whitehead, Ben edetti, Dominici and Mike Andreaha around th e firs t tu m. On th e first lap Benedett i dropped Whitehead to thud and set after Fuller . Within a short time Benedetti passed Fuller , but couldn 't seem to pull away. Fuller kept up the pressure an d pushed Benedet ti harder and h ard er. While Ben edetti tried to hold o ff Fuller, Mucciolo got by Andreaha and into th e top five . Benedetti managed to hold off Fuller for the win followed by Whitehead, Domini ci and Macciolo. Benedetti's p air of wins gave h im th e ov erall win a head of Dominici's 2-4, Whiteh ead 's 5-3 and Mucciolo 's 3-5. Fuller fi nished fifth with 8-2 scores. S~'sTM EXTEND-A-BED makes it fit. At the halfwa y point Webb dropped to fifth as H o fm eister moved to seco n d. Berg capt ured h is fin al win of the n igh t ahead of H o fmeister , Webb, R utherford, and Jirk ovsky. The race was o ne of four area qual ifiers for Ponca City, as riders battled for q ua lify ing posi tio n in all NMA classes. Frampton sta lled in ' th e rockers and Liedberg im m ediately began reeli ng in Mau ghan. The two H onda riders put o n a spectacu lar show as th ey battled tooth-a nd-na il for th e lead. Frampton reco vered from hi s mi shap and was soon in th ird. Li edberg fi na lly g ot b y Maughan on th e white flag lap a n d took th e win; Frampton ca u g ht Maughan and the pair battled to the flag with Maughn holding him off for seco nd. The start of the 250cc Pro actio n saw Frampton with the lead over Maughan, Boulton, and Liedberg. Liedberg blasted by Boulton and Maughan and began. pressing Frampton. The pair ran together until Frampton stalled on the fin al la p , which allowed Liedberg to tak e . th e win.
