Hart handles Paris ST By Karen Lewis PARIS, TN, APR. 29 James Hart was undefeated tonight In WKCRA short track action at Paris. Hart won th e first Open class heat and used a holeshot a nd eigh t perfect laps to al so take the fina l. Dallas Mayer held off Ro y Hart to take the runner-up spot. And y Richardson , David Flowers, Joel Barrow and Ch arles Beaumont rounded o u t the lin eup. Barrow ran aw ay with th e 250cc final with a light-to-flag run. Eddie Reago r initially held second before slipping back in th e pack. Mike Sm ith was the first to co me by before be was zap ped by J immy Allen and Mo nt e Starks. John Lewis filled in the top five with Reagor, Scott Clark, Ma r k Walker and Ch uck Allen bailing. Reagor went to th e front of the I25cc final a nd couldn't be reeled in by Barrow. Robbie Grief filled in the winner 's circle after coming by Ken Houston at th e halfway flags. Beau Braswell led every lap en route to the 500cc Stock class win over Jason Goodwin. Braswell looked lik e a repeat in the Modified main until motor problems on the last lap let Nick Hayden by for th e win with Goodwin following. Aaron Ladd led the first three laps of . th e 80cc clas s but it was John Sherrard o u t in front on lap four. Sherrard never looked back and took the win. Ladd held on for second while Chris Boone led a pack consisting of T o m my H ayden, Paul Morgan and J.R. Evans for third. The clo sest race of th e night was the 65cc main. Tom my H ayden led the pack with Jarrod Barrow and Jon Camp hot o n hi s heels. Camp ca me past Barrow o n lap three and a lap later took th e lead. Hayden repassed on th e next circuit and held on to take th e win by inches. Barrow stayed for third wh ile Joshua Knott passed Nick Hayden for fourth. Paul Morgan and Clint McClard rounded out the field. Budd y Akers co mp letely dominated the Amateur clas s final with a romp over Pat Bradham and Tony Knott, Results 50 STK: 1. Oldenberg awesome at Norsemen MX By Rolfe Otterness CAMBRIDGE, MN , MAY I J eff Oldenberg careened to the overall wins in both th e 125 and 250cc Expert classes at th e second Norsemen M.C. race of th e year . H e defin itel y was th e mas ter of the sandy track on his Rapid Sports Centersu p ported CRs. Over 300 other riders co mpe ted in the da y's races. T im Bar tylla got off to a blazing start in th e first 125cc Expert rnoto and in one of th e best -races of h is career took th e checkered for th e win. Kawasaki-mounted Rob Engstrom held second over Oldenberg, wh o had sliced through traffi c after a poor start. Pat Ril ey and Tom Benolkin ro unded out th e lOP five. T he second moto saw David T ait and En gstrom get out front ea rly. Engstrom slowly star ted to pull away from Tait while Oldenberg was charging from behind. At th e halfwa y point, Oldenberg pulled alongside T ait coming into a left-hand tum and made an aggressive bl ock pass to nab second. Then he reeled In Engstrom and as they approached th e finish line he shot by in a surprise mov e to tak e th e win. Oldenberg ran away for th e win in both 250cc Expert motos, Pat Riley motored in for second on hi s Suzuki with Brian Fern, J ohn Niem i and T odd Osman trailing in the Iirst mo to. CA, MAY 7 Thomas Anderson worked his wa y into a pair of wins in the Vet Intermediate class today at th e Perris Racewa y MX. In Intermediate Vet actio n Honda rider Mark Howard had timed th e sta rti ng gate perfectl y and rocketed into th e lead with Mark Granberg and Suzuk i pilot Thomas Anderson leading the large pack of riders. H oward was still leading with And erson only a heartbeat beh ind after th e Iirst lap. Granberg was now in third with Steven Clark putting on the pressure. Sco tt Wall enberg suffered a poor start and had worked h is way Into sixth behind G reg Whitfield. Wallenberg was not content to remain in that spot and soo n had displaced not only Whitfield, but Granberg also. A serio us battle was ta king place for the lead as Howard was doing everyth ing in hi s power to hold off Suzuki-mounted Anderson. On lap six, Anderson took an o u tside line in th e hi gh banked corn er near th e starting line and passed Howard goi ng over the tabletop jump. Wal lenberg was running a di stant third a t this point, with Granberg dogging h is tracks. Anderso n scored th e first moto wi n wit h H oward and Wallenberg a short distance behind. H oward again too k th e hol eshot in the seco nd rnoto and had com pany in the form of Wh itfield and Anderson. Anderson wasted li ttl e time and quickly moved by Wh itfield into second p lace. WaIlenberg was o n the gas and now had moved into th e n umber four slo t beh ind Wh itfield. Wh itfield had fall en off the pace with Wall enber g and Granberg sli p pi ng by, wh ile And erson was now puttin g th e mo ves on H oward in an attemp t to take th e lead . At midrnoto, And erson found a slick line to ta ke the lead with Wall enberg now cha llenging H oward. Anderso n 's perfec t I-I rnoto fin ishes gave him th e overa ll win with Walle nberg getting by Howard lat e in th e rno to to take second overall with a 3-2 fini sh. With almost 18 Vet Novi ces on hand toda y, they had th eir own race separa tely from th e rest of th e Vet classes . At the drop of th e ga te, Anthony P rocide jumped into th e lead. Runn ing in second and third were the Honda s of Chris Perez and Bob Zimmon, with Yamaha pi lot Norman Shiel and Honda-mounted John Richie rounding out th e top five positions. As th e laps clicked off, Procida kept his Suzuki out in front. Zimmon displaced Perez after six laps wh en Perez went down in a comer. Perez remounted in fifth as Schiel and Jim Stentz went into third and fourth, respectively. The moto came to an end with th e top five • places remaining intact. When th e second round began, it was Procida, once again , in the lead with almost half th e pack d ueling for seco nd place. Richie showed h is in-pack prowess and moved into the second place position. Behind him, G reg Erickson was busy holdin g off a large number of Yamahas, all trying to find a way around th e H onda rider. Positions contin ued to change behind th e lead th ree positions, which rem ained in tact until th e last lap, wh en Procida overjumped the tabl etop and landed in th e whoo ps. He · quickly go t his Suzuki under co n trol again, but Ri chie seei ng hi s opportun ity, j umped at it and went into the lead. Richie took the checkered a t th e end of th e lap with Procida and Erickson taking the number two and three positions. When th e totals were added up, Procida's 1-2 earn ed him the overall with Richie's 6-1 good enough for second.
