Perry H ALLET , OK , AP R. 30 Sam McDonald won two classes as the Hallet Racin g Club ope ned its racing season. .Dw ayn e Davis won Satu rday 's Endurance race, beating 10 teams for th e win. J ason L yuke was th e seco n d pl ace finish er in the Lightweight Endurance class. Sunday's ra ce action began with new lap reco rds set in nearly every race. Sam McDonald ' s K&N, Yamaha an d Bell H elmet- sponsored Yamaha set th e first lap reco rd in th e U n lim ited GP , w h ich he led from th e dr op o f the flag. Throughout the race h e was repea tedly challenged by T ryg Westby, but Westby co u ldn' t get p ast th e hard-charging McDonald for th e lead. McD onald's first lap reco rd stood at I :24.1 for the 1.8 m ile co urse. McD onald 's n ext race, H eavywei ght Superbike wou ld see th e fall o f hi s previous lap record and esta blish a new record a t H allet o f I :22.9; th e fastest lap ever by a motorcycle. King City ST win By Mike Vancil KING CITY, CA, APR. 30 The first o f a series of short track even ts at th e King City Fairgrounds was kicked off ton igh t with a comefrom-b ehind vict ory b y Anthony G iammanco. In the h eat race Gi ammanco was su m moned to the penalty sta rt line for being a li ttl e over-eager. Into the fir st co rner wi th a n ice lead was J ohn P ack a nd working quickly up to challe nge was G ary Ferravanti on a Bro wn 's Cycle and C & G Truckingsponsored Rotax. By lap two Ferravan ti was permanently in the lead, while G iammanco was ab le to work past four o ther ride rs to take seco nd on h is four-str oke Yamaha. On th e sta rt of th e final , Giammanco had his handlebar s knocked from h is grasp an d was in stantly down. Packs' Auto Import Repairsponsored Yamaha was tangled in Giammanco 's downed m achine and he too tumbled hard, bringing out the red flag. On th e restart it was Kevin Crowley on his two- stroke Yamaha spons ored b y Thompson's Audio/Video Studio who grabbed th e lead. Crowley held tigh tly to the pole an d kept the lead for two laps until Ferravanti took over, but only briefly. Giammanco's 'ap p lied pressure worked and h e got around Ferravanti in turn three. A late charge by Randy Bereman on his Mac Tools/C & G Trucking/Cinderell a Carpets-sponsored Rotax put .him in close touch with G iammanco and Ferravanti. On th e last lap Bereman got th e better drive out of the rutted second corner and took over second place from Ferravanti.
