Edge ANCHORAGE, AK, MAY I Arcti c Cat-Suzuki Motors po r ts sponsored J oe Good won both th e Pro a n d 125cc Expert classes a t Kincaid Park during the Alaska Motorcycl e Racing As so ci ation' s first points ra ce of th e season. Racer s accumulating ' th e most points in the ir classes will be declared th e AMRA Champion after th e nine ra ce seri es. Good jelled to th e front in the first 125cc Expert rnoto and never looked back. The whooped sand track took its toll on the bodies of everybody except Good. After spending the winter riding in California, Good is riding very strong. Bill Sandstrom led the rest of the pack to the finish line to claim second. The second moto was a Good re p ea l. This tim e Kawasaki 'o f Anchorage's Mike Guthrie too k the runner-up spot, besting Sandstrom for second overall. In 250cc Expert action Artie CatSuzuki Motorsports' Todd Haney grabbed the holeshot but was soon in a terrific di ce with Kawasaki o f Anchorage's Ralph Blanchard. The two swapped leads numerous times but with two laps 10 go Blanch ard parted with hi s bike. Blanchard was able to remount and still tak e second behind Haney. MOIO two sa w Haney in th e lead again , this tim e with J eff H ob son o n a Motorcycle Shop KTM in seco n d. Blanchard got a bad start and wa s working hi s way up. By th e halfway mark Blanch ard ca ugh t a n d passed Hobson and by th e ch eckered fla g had ca u gh t up 10 Haney but ran out of time. Brad Bomhoff started o u t in last in the 500cc Expert first m oto but : worked his way up 10 second behind Northwest Glass-sponsored Bruce Stingley. Bomhoff -wa i ted unti l Stingley made a mistake and slipped by to take the win. Stingley wan ted the overall and showed everyone in moto two the speed he's capable of by taking th e moto win and overall with a 50second margin over Bomhoff.· The Pro class was dominated by Good. When the 250cc Experts gated for the first tim e Rickerj umpe d out to an early lead. H on da's Breck Powers sta yed close during the early laps, bu t was never able 10 mount a serio us threat. With R icker and Power s cruisingin the first two spots, third was still up for grabs. Midrace crashes put both Aaron Yonel y and Mark Wright out of the ru nn in g , leaving Ron Down en in possession of third. Leon Lewis foll ow ed a nd finished th e moto fourth a nd Haro ld Boatman rounded o u t the top five. The seco nd m ota unfol ded th e sa me way. Ri cker and Powers. in fir st a n d seco n d, pulled a way fro m th e field , w h ile Downen, L ewis a nd Yonel y did battle farth er b a ck. Downen again held on to thi rd for third overall. Lewis ' 4-4 earned him fourth overall, and Yonely's 7-5 was good eno ugh to cap ture th e fifth spot. Rieker di spatched th e OPen class in a similar fashion. "I've been con centra tin g so hard on th e 250, I haven't had a chance to run the Open bike much ," said Ricker after taking the Open class overall. " It's really running good. Hahn hauls at Aztalan MX By Steve Giuntoli LAKE MILLS, WI, AP R. 24 Terry Hahn was the rider to beat at Aztalan Motocross Sunday, but as it turned out, no one could. Hahn easily dominated action in the Open B class, topping both motos. In the 250cc B class, though, Ha h n had h is work cut out for him before claiming his second win of th e day. In th e first 250cc mota, there was a close battle between Dan iel Winn , Doug Hay and Hahn. H ay eventually edged o u t Winn for the mota victory with H ahn pulling up in third. Second round action saw H ahn come a live a nd take the deciding second m ot a win with John Blickl e taking seco n d and Winn third . H ahn 's 3-1 combination gave him the victory over Winn. Oldenberg on fire at £Iko MX By Ro lfe Otterness ELKO, MN , AP R. 23-24 Mot a P ro Racing hosted the North Cent ra l Area Qualifier for th e AMA Nat ional Am at eur Championships o n Sa tu rday a nd foll ow ed up with a District 23 points ra ce on Sunday. Approximatel y 140 riders co m peted for adva nceme nt to th e regiona l round and among th e most successfu l wa s \ double class winner J eff Oldenberg, who won th e 250cc A S to ck a n d Modified classes o n Sunday. Overnight snowfall left th e tra ck in slo p pycon dition, but O ldenberg didn 't seem to mind as he grabbed th e ea rly lead in th e 250cc A Modified class. Scott Truempi a n d Chris Hughes dueled over second with Hughes finally gaining the upper hand. In the second moto, Olden berg had to fend off a challenge from Hughesto clinch the overall win. Pat Donaho and Brandon Backes scrapped over th e lead in both th e 85cc ( 14- 15) Stock and Modif ied c1~ sses with Donaho pulling off both wms, Sunday's ra ces were h eld with much im p ro ved tra ck co n d itions, a nd Troy Dollansky jetted ou t front in th e fir st 125cc Expert mot o with David T ait a nd Robbie Engstrom close behind. Engstrom ws up to second by th e third lap and closed o n Do llansky steadily. With two laps to go he took over the lead a nd went on for the wi n. Tait a nd Bri an Fern rounded out the top four beh ind Dollansky. - Bryan Hunt pulled the hol esh o t in the second moto and led for four laps. Engstrom crashed in the first turn but was up q uickly and motored through the pack. On the white flag lap Hunt led Pat Riley, Tim Bartylla and Engstrom in a tight gro u p.
