Graham got by for the win. eigh th to finish fifth, Peyon powered down th e straight at th e checkers, taking a position and setting back Sean Pl ymal e. Ely took the checkers .first followed by Harrel , Pearce, Evan Pl ymale and Peyron. Ely again dominated th e main event from green to checkers with a co mfor ta ble lead. For the first lap Evan Pl ymal e looked hot on target , but Harrell began his charge. H arrell picked a smooth line and put Evan back to third. Meanwhile, Pearce began making th e best of a lousy start and was picking hi s wa y through th e pack and moved up to take third. Ely claimed the victory a t th e flag , Harrell , Pearce, Peyron a nd Evan Pl ymal e filled the top five. Honda-mounted Graham fought tooth and nail to earn the victory in th e 500cc Pro class over Robert La nd and Harry Boudakian . Graham jumped o u t at the start of th e heat for th e holesh ot a nd. th e lead , follow ed clo sely by Land and Boudakian. Paul Cat es a nd Steve M. diced it o ut for fourth and fifth th rough th e infi eld . Graham held th e lead over Land to take th e heat win over Land and Boudakian. Graham , Land and Boudakian again held th e top three positions at the start of the main. Racing was fast and very close and Land challenged Graham a t every cru cial point on th e track. On lap six Land took th e high line getting around Graham for the lead . Graham kept th e pressure on and it paid off as he regained the lead for th e main 'event win. Radford, Bullard burn Rome MX By Gary Crider ROME, GA, APR. 10 Round three of th e G eorgiaAlabama Spring MX Seri es a t Rome Cycle Ranch saw Russell Radford and Brock Bu llard battle to wins in th e 250 a n d 125cc C di vi sions, respectivel y, while Tommy Martin aced both A cla sses over Mike Cra ne and Ash ley Ep ps. J eff Ba lla rd squeaked to the O pen B victo ry while Matt Boone topped a four-wa y tie for th e Pee Wee hon ors. Over 220 riders were in attendance for the Georgia Cycle Supply-sponsored event. The opening I25cc C moto thrilled the cro wd as Bullard and Radford banged handlebars through the first three turns. Bullard kept hi s PJ -11 Scott-backed Kawasaki in the lead despite several wheel-to-wheel challenges from Radford 's Kawasakil Suzuki City of Mableton-sponsored Suzuki. The duo pulled far ahead of the rest of th e 30-rider field and th e fini sh was close, with Bullard holding th e edge. Scotty' Chance, meanwhile, had com e.out of the pack to finish th ird. Chance got a mu ch better sta rt in moto two a nd won to net runnerup gold beh ind Bullard's 1-2 score. Radford had to settl e for a 2-4 da y and th ird overa ll o ver Kevin Cozadd. Bull ard leads th e series by a 24-point mar gin over Cozadd. Seri es-leader Radford came back to dominate 250cc C actio n with a pair of runaway wins o ver Pa ul Bro wn . Randy . Barfi eld stayed in the hunt to cl a im third a hea d of Jimm y Willis. Kipp Brule recovered from a cras h a t th e start of moto o ne to post 9-4 for fifth overa ll. In the Open B cla ss Ball ard and Wall ace Fin cher swapped th e lead back a nd forth on th e opening lap of th e first m oto, with Ballard holding the advantage. On lap three Allen H arrison snuck up behind th e pair a nd jammed by for the lead a nd the win. Lap four saw Fin cher move pa st Ball ard to finish second. Ball ard not ched third. Coors-backed Ballard ro ck et ed away with the second moto lead at th e start, Disaster struck Harrison on lap two when he crashed, was slow to restart and was held to a-fifth place finish for third overall. Finch er mov ed up to the second position and finished th ere as Ballard was long gone with th e win and th e overall ah ead of Fin ch er. Dan Lipscomb was 4-4 for fifth overa ll behind John Trissel. H arri son maintained his series lead but the gap over Fin ch er has narrowed to five points. Martin 's clean sweep o n th e four A class mot os was not easy as he was under pr essu re fro m Mike Cran e in both 250cclOpen motos and, in th e first 125cc race, Martin was set back to fourth spot af ter a first lap sp ill. Martin quickl y remo unte d, even tuall y ran down lead er Ashl ey Epps and, with two laps remaining, went by for th e win . The Pee-Wee class saw n um erous lead cha nges, crashes and, fina lly, a four-way poi nt tie for the win. Matt Walk er and J erem y Nevels took their turns at th e lead in moto on e bu t Sean Morgan came o ut for th e win. Maso n William s started sixt h but • Brock Bullard (85) leads Russell Radford in 125cc C action at Rome Cycle Ranch. Bullard won the class and Radfo rd took the 250cc C win . charged to a second place finish whil e Walk er and Matt Boone cras hed from the top two pos itio ns to fini sh si x t h a n d fourth, respectively. Cayuga Hillc'imb By Paul Hayes CAYUGA, IN , MAR. 26 Ron Todd, riding a pair of Kawasa ki s, scored wins in .the 400 a nd 500cc class es at th e Ca yuga HiIIclimb, th e open ing event for th e Illinoi s and Indiana seaso ns. The sponso ring club was the Pl easure Riders M /C and th e event was D17/D -151 AMA sanc tio ned. In the 400cc cla ss T odd made h is first cli mb th e fast est in the class. His win ning tim e was 4. 155. Alan H oski n s ro de hi s Ya m a h a i n to th e ru nner-up slo t with a 4.543 second rou nd climb. Third p lace went to D17 Nu mb er One plate hol der, Ll oyd H aas. H is best rid e of 4.698 came in the seco nd ro und on a Yamah a. Todd's seco nd win of the ni ght run came in the 500cc class, wh ere his second ro und climb of 3.88 1 was also the fastest tim e for th e event. Harry Denham had a hard tim e in round one, only going 87 feet, but he cam e back with a 3.951 rid e to earn second pla ce on a Yam aha. H oskins also collec ted his second trophy of the . night, for third in the class, hi s best ride of 4.269 co ming in th e final round of climbs. Kelly Senn started th e season off in perfect fashion wh en he rod e hi s Kawasaki to th e 250cc class win. The 250s had a hard tim e in round on e, as only one third of th e riders crested th e hill. Senn went o ver th e top during both rounds and had th e fast est times in each of them. His winning tim e wa s 4.595 . KTMmounted Chris And erson also went over o n both rides, and hi s fastest tim e came during the second round wh ere he posted a 4.742 for second overall. Mik e Pulver's best ride was 5.756, which was don e in round two , and he scored third overall. Kawtown Kawasaki/Beta rider Ed Scott took the win in th e 200cc class. His Kawasaki carried him through the lights in 4.250 on hi s final attempt, Kawasaki rider Bill Ashley blasted his bike into second place with his la st ride of 4.684.
