Riders for the English team included Simon Cross, Jeremy Doncaster, Simon Wigg, Neil Evitts, Kelvin Tatum, Chris Morton and Gary Havelock. The English riders defeated the Yanks by 24 po ints. though he rode hard, he could not make up ground on the eager British riders. Lack of professionalism was the . main' problem, though. The Moran brothers had four machines between them but by the end of the meeting only one was in top working order. Lance King and Rick Miller were the only riders to give team captain Shawn Moran any worthwhile support. King, who rode for Bradford for two years before switching to King's Lynn this season, opened well by taking Simon Cross from behind in his first race, and though he did not manage another, win he shared top place in the scorechart with his captain, while Miller put in some val uab le work at reserve. The rest of the American squad was sadly out of touch. Rob Pfetzing, . who joined Bradford at the start of the season, struggled for four points, and Randy Green, also riding on h is British home track, pulled out after taking only one po int from two rides. But the most disappointed was Mike Faria who is 'having his first season in the British League with Belle Vue. QUEEN CITY CYCLENATIONALS V The American team was made up of Mike Faria, Rick Miller. Ran'dy Green, L.8nce King, Robert Pfetzing, Shawn Moran and Kelly Moran. American Sam Ermolenko missed the meet to race in the Un ited States. Faria was ga ting well and led in two of his races but could not master the . circuit and fai led to score . -On th is occasion England dictated the terms. Chris Morton, oldest man on the team at 3'l, led the way with four wins in five races and dropped his only point to team ma te Kelvin . Tatum. The U.S. team was able to hold its own in the early heats and were only two points down after five races but the gap steadily widened with the Americans taking major points in only one of the remaining 10 heats. It was a bitter disappointment for the U.S. team but they should pave more success wi th Ermolenkoback on the squad for the second match of the senes against Sweden. • Results ENGLAND: Chr is Mo rton (14); Kelvin Tatum (10); Neil Evitts (10 ); J er emy Donc ast er (7); Gary Havelock (7); Simon W igg (5); Simon Cross (4).
