Majeski mastel's TI'ail-Way ST By Len Breec h ' HANOVER, PA ; APR. 2 Despite heavy, overcas t co nditio ns, T rail-Wa y Speedway hosted th eir first night sh ort tra ck of th e season. Only three rid ers manag ed to repea t th eir win from the opening Sunda y race three weeks earlier - J oe Ga tely (Sen iors), Randy Shank (90cc) and Kevin Varnes (200cc Amateu rs). No ·Expert s repeated th eir class win, alt hough T om Cerciell o topped th e 250cc Experts tonight, after winning the 750s on open ing day. And in th e largest, no-h olds barred class, the 600s, th e last name was the same as th e opening, but this time it was o lder brother T om Majeski bea ting hi s bro th er, and 600cc winner ear lier, Rob , by a len gth. T he 600cc Experts had to figh t to mak e the fina l, with four heats, a nd " luck of the draw" had some of last year's winners not making the fin al as two of th e heat s were pa cked wi th many top five riders. Although th e fin al was very fast and close, very few posi tio ns changed. Tom Maj esk i took the lead fro m brother, Rob , Jim Hollister an d T om Cerciello as they exi ted the second turn. After two laps, Georgie Price had wor ked his wa y into fourt h in hi s first ride o n a 600, whi le Scott Saunders, Cerciello and Ra nd y T exter go t into a close h a rd fo u gh t ba ttl e for fifth . Althoug h th ey ha ve compe ted in the same class severa l times in the past two years , th is was the first tim e the Maj eskis had battled for the lead among the mselves. Th is tim e, Tom held on for the win , wit h Rob no more than a length behi nd. . As was th e case in almost every fina l ton ig h t, the leader ou t of turn two wo n on a smooth , sligh tly slick, wid e groove tr ack. In the 250cc Experts , Tom Cerciello took the lead from Mike Klop p , Dave Du haine and Ran d y T exter at th e start. O n th e third lap T exter slipped by Duh ain e on the back stra ight for third. T exter ca me back in the 750cc fin al to take th e lead from H ol lister, Ri chard Foard, and Cerciello. The most pas sing of the night occurred o ver the second position, as H ollister drifted close to the wall, letting Foard into seco nd, regaining it on th e next lap. Clarence Bull caught fire , and moved into second on the fifth lap, while Cerciello took th e position for good as they came off the fourth turn on the seventh lap. Closest of the Am ateur ra ces was the 90s, where Randy Shank figured to easily win, being th e on ly Expert in the field. T rue to form, Shank grabbed th e lead from Ri cky Winsett, Todd Winsett and Jeremiah Alexa nder. Alexander displaced Todd for third as they ended th e second lap. About that point, Winsett moved up to pressure Shank for the lead and stayed pl anted on hi s tail end for the duration, even getting beside him once, but didn 't quite have it to pass on th e ou tside. At the flag , Shank won by a length. After skipp ing th e opening event due to a strange sound in his engi ne, Jim Lyn ch had it back together tonight as he grabbed the lead from Wayne Franklin, Dallas Baer, and Paul Nettleton, as the 600cc Amateurs left th e second turn. Baer took second as th ey h it th e third turn on th e third lap. From then on it was a replay of th e first heat, with th e same results; Lyn ch in first, with Baer two len gths back. Results didn't have as much lu ck, fin ishing th ird behind John Hain line and Anthony Dyson. Rogerson exp loded in the 250cc class, nailing the holeshot in both motos. In the first moto, Rogerson led from start to finish, but It was in round two when he had to do some extra work. Rogerson collided with a nother rider, allowing Manson to slide into the lead. But in the la te stages of th e race, Rogerson shot back into the lead, taking the moto win and overa ll. In th e 125cc Amateur ranking, Matthew Hendrix grabbed the holeshot in the first moto, while Willie Pru it and Craig Barbour pursued. After battling for awhile , Barbour moved into first with Hendrix and Ch arles Todd taking up the wars over second and third. They held th eir posi tions to fini sh in this order. Round two saw Todd take the holeshot and hold it every lap for the ' win . H e was foll owed in by Barbour and H endrix. Barbour, however, wrap ped up th e overall victory. Res ult s P/W : 1.
