Trevor Dunne and Gary Patton, both riding Du catis, put on a show in th e heavyw eight cla ss, with Dunne beating Patton for th e win. Mathews masters RomeMX By Toni Anthoni ROME, GA , MAR . 13 Chance Mathews won both motos of the l25cc B class to take top honors at the Rome Cycle Ranch season opener. To make the event a fami ly a££air Scotty Mathews dominated the 125cc class, winning both motos handily. In th e first 125cc B moto Georgia C ycl e Supply/O 'Neal-sponsored Chance Mathews powered his R&D Suzuki into the lead followed by Todd Downs and Gabe Gaddis. Lonnie Brown suffered a bad start but was' on th e gas and quickly moved through tile pack. By the white £lag Brown had overtaken Downs for second and was closing on the leader, but ran out of time as Mathews held on for the win. In moto two , Mathews again pulled a clean holeshot with Downs and Brown in tow. Brown quickl y di sposed o f Downs and set his sights on Mathews. This set up a moto long battle with Brown trying to pass at almost every corner. Mathews proved equal to the task as he shut the door o n Brown and held on for the win. Fr eewheeling Honda 's Brian Sto kes showed hi s style as he topped the co mpeti tive Super Mini class. In moto o ne Stokes stole th e holeshot and look ed to be a n easy winner, but a s lip o n t he last la p a llo we d Ka wasa ki-mounted Aaron Yat es by for the win. Sto kes mad e no mistakes in mo to two as he led from start- tofinish to take the overa ll win. Stokes was not as fortuna te in the Argyll Park MX By Janice Brignoli DIXON, CA, MAR. 13 T yson Vohland scored the overall wins in both the 250 and 500cc P ro classes today at Argy ll Park. Vohland, a Kawasaki Pro support rider, captured the lead in moto one of the 250cc Pro race with Kelly Andris pushing him while Steve Lamson and Rich Myth en did battle for the third position. Voh land set a fast pace and pulled away from the pack as Andris' bike quit. Lamson moved into th e second position with Mythen third. Moto two found Andris getting the gate with Vohland a close second. Andris held the lead for two laps whe n Vohland made his mo ve for th e lead. While dicing for first Andris sp un out in a tum and recovered quickl y to maintain seco nd. Lamson worked his wa y from lOth o££ the gate to fini sh in th e third spot and Mythen captured fourth. Vohland got the holeshot in the first 500cc Pro race and held the lead for th e entire ra ce with Mythen maintaining the fast pace for most of the race. Moto two saw Mythen gettin g the gate with Vohland pushmg for th e lead. Mythen held on for about four laps with Vohland on his rear tire waiting for his chance to go for another back to-back win. Mythen finished with a 2-2 while J ed Green took third overall. Brett Ca ho rs took th e lead in moto one of the 125cc Pro class followed clo se ly by Danny Paladino and Lamson, who got by Paladino and went after Cahors. Lamson and Cahors traded o££ first until Lamson took the inside line o££ a jump and sailed by Cahors-, Lamson then stretched his lead over Cahors while Pa ladino held third. Moto two again found Cahors, Paladino and Lamson in the same positions o££ th e gate. Cahors and Lamson diced it out for most of the moto when Lamson made his move and went for the overall win Cahors finished second and Paladino third. Kawasaki-mounted Russ Daley diced with Craig Shultz, Duane Joice and Steve Law and managed to surface as the victor in moto one of th e Vet Master cla ss. In moto two, Dal ey holeshot only to have Steve Ferroni pressure on by to take over the lead. Daley regained th e number one spot by taking the outside line o n a sweeper. Again it was any body's race as Dal ey, Shultz, Steve Lawrence a nd Joice engaged in a moto rumble. Dal ey won o u t tak ing the overa ll wi th a I- I.
