Kirtland was in second with Kawasaki rider Jeff Dement moving up
fast. Dement took over second place

giving second place back to Kirtland.

Carlton third and Dement fourth.

Clarke had a good lead over the pack

The second mota saw P inney run
away from the pack. Stit h , Clarke,
Melchior a nd Ted Orr were in a
heated battle for seco nd whe n Melchior broke free a nd set a u t 10 ree l
in Pinney. Melchior rode a trem endo us race only 10 hav e mechanical
p roblems when Pinney was in strikmg di stance. Pinney cruised home
for an easy win followed by Stith,
Clarke, Orr and John Kernan.
The first 2S0cc Expert mota saw

10 younger brother Scott. Wh en th e
gate fell the two Pinney brothers
ro cketed up the sta rt hill with
Melchior at their side. The trio set
a blistering pa ce and soon th e rest
of the pack was a fading memory.
Michael Morgan, Michael Crocker
and Michael Griffin set up th e race
for the fo u rth place spot. R ick
'P in ney was ab le to out-duel Melch ior on the last lap with Scott
Pinney watching from third. Morgan and Crocker finished out th e top
five in th e first round.

a ble to ge t by Mor gan in this moto
a nd that was th e order until th e
chec kered flag fell at th e end of 10
laps.
The Open Expert class pi tted Chip
Anacker agai nst some hungry amateur riders. Anack er grabbed th e
hol eshot and never looked ba ck .
Tommy Willett, Dave Posten and
Sco tt Pinney were in a match for
second place. By th e halfway point
Willett had powered his Honda into
second over Dave Posten on his Cycle
Five-sponsored Kawasaki. Scott
P inney grabbed fourth over Bill
Sharff.

In the second mota Anacker again
ran away from the pack from the
onset of the race'. Willett was in
second and had to make a pit stop
which let Scott Pinney into the
runner-up spot. Jay Dean also got
by while Willett was sidelined.
Willett pulled back out in the fourth
spot followed by Sharff. .
