Olson destroys Glen Helen 'OTMX By Sam English SAN BERNARDINO , CA, FEB. 27 H onda -mounted Alan Olson T itera lly blew a way th e Master class a fter two da ys of racing to tak e first in all four mot os in what turned ou t to be th e largest tu rno ut ever at th e 9th Annual OTMX an d OTHG Winternat ional s held at G len Helen Racewa y. Mo to o ne had Lars Larson and Ken Retzloff fighting for the ho leshot follow ed by Ri ck Kelly and Ron Wa y. Olson was sq ueezed o ff in th e first turn a nd found hi mself in fifth pl ace after th e firs t lap. By the end of the seco nd la p Olson tu rned it on and blew by the four leadin g riders. H e sett led in a nd was timed a t 1:04 a lap with his closes t competition being Retzloff , who was o ff th e pace by just ove r o ne seco nd. Beh ind Olson and Retzlo ff came the seco nd group o f ri ders led by Robert Fort ier , Larson a nd Way to h it the fin a l flag in that order. Moros two and th ree were much th e same as the first moto with Olson pou ring on the stea m to run away from the competition. DunesMX By Pat Jaquish MABTON, WA, FE B. 2 1 H onda- moun ted Eric Wilz took the . overall victory in th e 125cc C class .with a pair o f firsts a t the season opener at Mab ton Dunes. Wi lz led the first rnoto followed by SCOtt Ditm er, Du st y Kissel , Edd ie J asso and Dave Lah n. Wi lz immediately pulled out to a good lead whi le Kissel moved into seco nd wh en Di ttmer fell and dropped back. Lah n began to make up some ground on Kissel as th e first th ree riders p ulled away fro m the pack. Another battle developed fo r fou rth between Mark Albright, Jamie Wei p pert and David Lewi s with Weippert bar ely hangi ng on to fourth a t th e fin ish . Wil z wo n the race by a few yards over a charging Kissel with Lahn in th ird. T he second mo to was al most a carbo n copy of the first with th e top three posit ions being th e same at th e end. Albright was able to move into seco nd briefly on the uphill section but he cou ldn' t hold it as he dropped back to fourth a t th e finish. Matt Larson led Steve Mitchell, T o m Carlon and Randy McAllister as the 250cc B riders roared onto th e track. Larso n 's lead was never challenged as he pulled away to a n easy win. Carlon passed Mitchell on th e downhill to tak e over second place, a nd soo n a fter Mitchell pulled off the tra ck . Brett Bier ek mov ed up to cha llenge Carlon but eventually fell to the charge of Dan Reyn ol ds, who too k a well earned third. Larson shot into the lead at the start o f the seco nd moto and never loo ked ba ck. Behind him Ca rlo n a nd Reyn olds were battli ng over th e runner-u p spo t when they bo th went down, letting Bierek by. Carlo n got - goi n~ again in third while J o n H am so n moved into fourth.
