In th e hea t race, Mark Rooks got
the in iti al lead follo wed by Ro n
Ad am s, Kell , Del Sch n i tzer a n d
Marty Zirb el. Schnitzer began movi
ing ri ght a way a nd slid under Kell,
then one la p later he went around
Adams. On la p four Kell moved by
Adams, as did Zirbel. Up front Rooks
wa s looking s uper s ty l is h b u t
Sch nitzer pushed his way by to take '
control of the lead just before the
chec kered flag came o ut. Behind th e
duo was Kell, Zirbel and Adams, wh o
were all ultra close.
The main was all Kell as he
grabbed the lead and never looked
back. Behind him was Sch nitzer,
Zirbel a nd Adams. Unfort u na tely
Roo ks cou ldn 't make 'the final. Lap
after lap Kell was flawless , but
Schnitzer was never more than five
yards behind on his Go-Joe Enterprises Yamaha. Zirbel and Adams
were also close. The action was
a bsolutely wild but the positions
remained th e sam e right down to the
checkers.
In the Plus 40 class there were so
man y entries that it req ui red two
heat races. Dan Kirk took h is new
Honda in to the lead in hea t o ne
a head of J ack McCoy, Chuck H odson, J erry H alvorso n , Leroy Thompson and Ray Carroll, who fell and
did n't restart. Kirk ran first to the
fi n al flag w i th a ll p o si tion s
uncha nged.
Ala n Anderson took the ear ly lead
in heat two follow ed by Ron Meh ner ,
Mike Waggoner , J im Krist and Doug
P helps. Everyo ne strung o ut ' a nd
stayed that way until the las t lap ,
wh en Waggoner wen t by Mehner
and Anderson for th e win. At the
fin ish it was Waggoner, Anderson,
Mehner, Krist and P helps.
Kirk came out fast in th e main
event ahead of Anderson, McCo y,
Hodson a nd th e o the rs. Once aga in
Carroll lost it in turn three a nd
Waggoner went down right next to
him. The leader s were close a s
everyo ne else stru ng o ut a bit. At th e
fini sh it was still Kirk, Anderson,
McCo y, H odso n and th e o thers.
