Pederson claimed the overall vic. h2 1 £ b tor~ wit - per ~rma.nces, .ut Ernig got the senes title with hi s 1-2 score. Going into th e final round Emig led the series with 268 points, Ryan Hughes was a close second with 262 and Pederson was third with 249. Since the fina l round counted as double points any of the top three riders had a chance of winni ng the series. When the gate dropped to start the first moto Duane Benner holeshot Emig, Bu bba Erickson , Grayson Goodman and Hughes. Shortly into the rno to Emig moved into first with Benner close behind while Erickson fell out of the top 10 and Pederso n took over third after passing Hughes and Goodman. As the race ' progr essed a battle erupted for firs t betw een Emig and Benner. The two riders swapped th e lead several times with Emig coming out on top. While Emig and Benner battled Pederson ca u g h t th e duo and challenged Benner for second as Emig pulled away. Halfway through the race Pederson got by Benner and set after Emig, but tim e ran out for Pederson as the checkers soon fell. Emig took the win fo llowed by Pederso n , Benner, Hughes and Goodman. Second rnoto action saw Eric kson get the hol esh o t over Benner, Ray Crumb, Mike Chamberlain and Emig. Pederson gated ninth. On th e first lap Emig moved into second while Pederson rapidly moved up and was close behind. Emig soon took control of the lead after passing Ben ner. Pederso n also followed suit and moved into second to drop l Benner back one more position. Halfway into the race Hughes worked hi s way into fourth close behind Benner then quickly got around him and began chasing the lead ers. who had opened up a fivesecond lead. U p front Pederson stuffed Em ig in a berm and took com mand of th e fin al laps. Pederson took th e win whi ch gave him overa ll and th ird in th e series. Emig was second in both th e moto and the overa ll but claimed the series champi onship, and Hugh es finished third for th e day and second in the series. Pederson came back with a con sistent pair of seconds to win th e overall and the series cha mpio nsh ip in th e 250cc Intermediate class. First mo to ac tio n saw J er em y McGrath grab th e holeshot ahead of Hughes, Pederson. Goodman and I David Noel. On the seco nd lap a three-way ba tt le for fir st sta rted bet ween McGrath , Hugh es a n d ~ Pederson. Hu gh es got by McGrath and led for a lap until a m istake dropped him to third yet still within stri ki ng di stance o f the. lead er s. Pederson reall y started to pick up the pace and pass ed McGrath down a fast'; straightawa y. McGrath stayed witll Pederson, and with two laps remain in g Pederson and McG rath collided, causing both to sta ll th eir bikes :' McGrath was th e first to restart his Yam aha and again took th e lead as Pederson go t u nderway in second. Whil e McG rath a n d Peder son wer e goi ng a t it G oodm an had passed Hughes and Tim Wh itl ock and was now fifth. Pederson cut away a t th e ga p separa ting him from McGrath and prod uced so me of th e fastest lap times of the da y while doin g so. H owever, at th e finish McG rath rema ined o n top, Pederson was secon d foll ow ed by Goodman, Hughes and Whitlock. At th e start of th e second moto Hugh es too k th e h ol esh ot o ver McGrath. Whitlock, Ray Crumb and Lawrence. Pederson gated mid-pack in th e field of three-dozen rid ers. On the first lap McGrath fell on a rough downhill and dropped to ninth, mov ing Whitlock into second ahead of Crumb, Jason Buule and Pederson. Halfway into th e race Pederson had worked hi s way into third and was a few bike len g th s behind Whitl ock . With onl y two laps, remaining Ped erson got by Whitlock a n d set a fte r Hu gh es, who had opened up a co m fortablelead. Time. soon ran o u t fo r Pederson and Hughes took the win. Hughes was second overall with a 4-1 score and moved into second in th e series.' McGrath·s 1-6 earne d him third for sixth in the series. and Wh itl ock was fourth and third in th e series. Honda-mounted Kirk Benke won both mot os of the Vet Junior class but finished second in the series to, Douglas Clark by three points. ! At th e start of th e first mota Clark grabbed th e early lead over Edwin Sims. J ohn Carter. Jim Marten and Gary Yearsle y as Benke gated eighth Sims soon fell to sevent h which gav Carter second and Marten third. while Benke had moved to fifth and was rapidly gaining positions. Mid- ] way through the race Benke had, mo ved into thi rd and was just a few, bi ke lengths behind the leaders. With only two la ps to go Benke passed Clark and Carter and took the lead , then rode on to the win ahead of Clark, Carter, Marten a nd Mike Ra nk. As the pack rounded the first corner for the second rnoto Benke
