In moto o ne Hansen got the lead a nd rod e to a perfect wire-to -wire finish. Behind him off the line was Galle, Don Blasdell, Dane Batty, Kevin Strang and Todd Burchett. Rains that started during the m iddle of practice had made the track q uite muddy by now. H ansen cont in ued to fly on the muddy track without making any mistakes. Everyone else strung o u t and remained that way sin ce trying to see with or without goggles was diff icult. At the checkered flag it was Hansen , Ga lle, Blasdell and the others. Galle took the ear ly lead in moto two ah ead of H a nsen , Burchett, Blasdell, Batty and Strang. Batty lost it on lap two and Hansen pressured Galle until he finally got by on lap three. Galle remained right on Hansen 's rear fender , just waiting for an opening that finally appeared on lap II , when H a nsen went down. At . the finish it was Galle, Hansen, Burchett, Blasdell, Strang and Batty. In th e 250cc Juni or class Eddie Gerrish took the lead in moto one followed by Troy Shanafelt, Rob Fla gler and Kris Ovall. By lap two Fla gler moved up to second but Gerrish was long gone. Lap aft er la p Gerrish flew through th e mud with Flagler trying to ca tch up to no avail. Out back Ovall cont in ued to chase Sh anafelt. At th e chec kered flag it was Ge rris h, Flagler, 'Shana fel t a nd Ova l I. Gerrish got th e lead once aga in in the final moto while being foll ow ed by Shanafelt, Flagler and Ovall. The order remained unchanged until lap five whe n Shanafelt got past Gerrish. On lap eigh t Gerrish repaid th e favor a nd went th e rest of the way unch allenged. The final race of the seven ro und Monroe Arenacross Series came to an end today at Monroe's Fairgrounds. Among the big winners were Phil Larson and Gary Strode. Larson topped a combined I25/25OccPro class whi le Strode dominated the 250cc Int ermed ia te class to join 28 overall victors in the winner's circle a t the completion.of the event. Larson and Scott Steffy ba ttled . throughout the first 125/ 250cc Pro' moto and finished in the top two positions at the finish. Taking th ird , good for the 125cc Pro class win , was: Aaron Shardeiman. Moto two sa w Larson again blurring to the head of the pack wh ile Steffy loomed in his shadow. Larso n held Steffy at bay for th e d uration of th e race a nd go t the overall win aft er I-I performances. Steffy's 2-2 tallies were enough to ea rn second pl ace pa y. In th e 125cc Pro portion Kaw asaki rider Scott Grimm, who took second to Shardelman in mota one , prevail ed for th e I25cc P ro o vera ll win. Shardelrnan 's 1-2 rides nett ed second overall. Strode stor med to a win in th e" 250cc Intermediate cla ss, whi ch ran co mbined with .the Open Interm e-" diates. Strode dominated both riJotosr:I for a I-I sweep. Taking second to Strode in both motos was Jeff HOf~ fman and Tim Doyle was third. In the Open portion, Honda ride rs Don Tyler and Chris Stal ey were first and second.
