Coming down th e back straightaway she bl ew by bro the r Jim and Hanson. By lap th ree she slid under Haycock for second. Meanwhile Fisher enj oyed a lead that th e yo ung lady couldn't shorte n as the final flag came out. In order was Fisher, Jessica Kirkman, Haycock, Hanson, Jim Kirkman and Bush. In th e final mota Fisher go t the early lead foll owed by Jessica Kirkman, H anson, Jim Kirkman, Haycock and Bush, who got out of shape on th e front straigh t and lost it . Bush was up and running immediately while at the front Fisher lost control and fell , J essica took over th e lead a nd began to leave everyone else behind. Fisher was up and running but his leg seemed to bother him as he fin all y pulled off for good. Meanwh ile H a ycock was all over J im Kirkman lap af ter lap. Several times they were ri gh t next to each other but Jim finally pulled the ad vantage with a lap to go. Up front J essica Kirkman was looking su per as she co n tin ued to extend her lead. At th e chec kered flag it was Jessica Kirkman wi th the win followed by Hanson, J im Kirkman, Haycock, and Bush . In th e 250cc Intermediate class Chris Sicil ia got the initial lead over Kevin Wh yte,CharlesDrakeandJohn Marcotte. In turn one Marcotte's bike quit a nd .he wa s slo w to get sta rted. Whyte built up a 10-yard lead on Sicili a and Drake while the latter two battled back and forth. Lap after la p Drak e was ri ght on Sicilia's rear end, th en o n lap four Drake made a su per dri ve off of a berm a nd p ulled u p next to Sici lia heading for th e big center jump. Drake never let off th e gas and flew by Sici lia . .At th e next corner both riders were still very close whe n Sicilia went down. Drake went around the fallen rider but a t the very next corner he went down . Meanwh ile Sicilia was up and movin g and he went up and around Drake, who was fran tica lly trying to restart his bike. By th e time Drake got go in g Wh yte was taking th e checkered flag with Sicilia a ways back in second. Drake was a di stant third. In the final mota Wh yte went wireto-wire without looking back. Sicilia, who had Drake all over him th e en ti re race, was 30 yards behind and behind them was Marcotte. Drake was very close but couldn't quite make a pass stick. By Karen Frizzo PANAMA, IL, NOV. 15 Tom Ehmke won a very com pe titive P ro class at th e Panama Grand Prix H are Scrambles and took home th e $200 cash prize. The 7.5-mile course was a combi na tio n of sandy creek bo tto ms, challenging hills and wi de ope n field sections. One very long and steep hill tu rn ed o ut to be the spe cta tor spo t of the day. Wi th only one way u p , many ri ders had to ta ke two or three tries beforegoing over th e top,because BLOUNTVILLE, TN, NOV. 8 Mike Brown a ttended th e Tony D motocross school held on Saturday a nd showed everyo ne that he learns well as he co llec ted th e 125 a nd 250cc B class wi ns the nex t da y a t Muddy Creek. Brown holesh ot th e first 125cc B mota followed by Ch ad Leigh. On lap two Jeff Shuler charged to the seco nd spot and chased Brown, but they fin ished in th at order. Brown aga in holeshot the seco nd mota on hIS Barr's Competition tuned bike a n d pulled a head of Shuler fo r . anothe r mot a win. Brown and Shuler continued their battle as the 250cc B class got underway. They came off the gate first and second, respectively, a nd ran the entire mota in that order. Tim Jennings holeshot the second mota followed by Chris Shortridge and David Tilson. Brown and Shuler were at the back of the pack and chargi ng. By the third lap Brown had the lead and Shuler was in third behind Shortridge after Jennings fell. Brown held the lead to the end and Shuler worked his way past Shortridge to collect second. Mark Spriggle led Aaron Bollinger off ·the line in the 125cc Pro class . Bollinger then fell on lap two and Mark Ashworth pressured Spriggle. Jim Chester came charging through the pack and passed Ashworth to pressure Spriggle. They were sideby-side severa l times, but Spriggle held the lead to the win. Chester put his Barr's Competition Kawasaki into the lead in the second mota with Spriggle hot on hi s tail. They battled th e en tire mota with Ch ester taking the win. Bollinger took fourth the second mota to . secure the points ch ampionship for th e year: . Spriggle and Ashworth continued to do battle as the 250cc Pro class got underway. Eddie Branch holeshot the first moto but on lap two the Spriggle-Ashworth freight train moved to the front with Brian Stanley in taw. Ashworth took the win with Spriggle pushing all the way. The role was reversed the second mota and Spriggle led from star t-to-fini sh over Ashworth. J im Ch ester too k the wi n in the first mota of th e Open Pro class over Gerald Green e. Robbie Neeley was asleep in the pi ts a nd wi th the late sta rt cou ld o nly ma na ge fifth. Ward won th e 250cc Pro class aftertapping a second mota shoot-out, while Steffy took th e 125cc Pro class with 1-2 per fo r ma n ces; DeVol devoured a small field of Open Pros , winning with I-I tallies. . Steffy sho t into th e lead at th e drop d of the gate in th e first 125cc Pro E contest, which wa s a mong the day'so most exci ti n g ra ces. Steffy and 1 Spokane's Rick Simmit (Honda) 1 dueled for th e lead, but in the later j stages, Steffy took command of the mota, good for th e win beating " Simmit and Ward, who was caught among traffic and took third. I The second con test saw local rider Aaron Shardelman, aboard a Yamaha, taking the lead on the ., opening lap of competition with l Steffy and Ward battling for second. Shardelman opened up a lead and cruised to the checkered flag , while , the battle waged for second between Yamaha Support riders Ward and Steffy. Ward nabbed Steffy late in the mota to settle in to second, but Steffy returned the favor with a move across.,! the finish line, good for a 1-2 overallq win. Ward (3-3), Shardelman (6-1), . Simmit (2-5) and Steve Friesen (5-4)/ rounded out the top five overall. :> . Ward and Friesen battled throughout both 250cc P ro motos, with Friesen taking the first mota win I ahead of Ward and Canadian Larry Visco (Ka wasa ki). In mota two, Ward got the nod, good for his only overall win of the da y in a two class quest. Fri esen (1-2) and Visco (3-3) , took top three pay spots. Yamaha rider Jeff Jacobson earned the day's iron-man laurels, tapping two classes , the 125 and 250cc Intermediate events, both with I-I performances. In the 125cc class , Jacobson led Jamie Richardson and e Tara Harrison to the checkered flag . • Jacobson prevailed in the second contest, while Richardson edged Harrison in a second rnotoshoot-out, ~ good for runner-up laurels. Jacob- ' son's next feat was topping the 250cc J Intermediate motos. Reuben Springman, aboard a Honda, was Jacobson's closest competition in the first mota, but a second mota fifth placed Pat Schouweiler into second overall I after 3-2 performances behind Jacobson's su perb I-I rides. J . Harrison came back to win the Women's clas s, beating Karen Jacobson. In this race, however, Har- ~ rison 's I-I- ta ll ies were good for the win; J acobson (2-2) a n d Angela H offman (3-3) took second and th ird overa ll.
