The fin al hea t ra ce was ta ken by Son ny Nu u ~ over Scott Sivadge a nd Cra ig Schaeier, Fishback won h is semi over Steve Nutter wh ile T omlin beat Sims in th e ot he r. The main saw Fishback lead a ll the way. Nutter did a spectacular wheelie on lap one a n d almost threw it away but h e managed to save it . Tom lin pressured "T he Animal " a ll th e way but h e co u ldn' t find a way past an d Fishback took the win. Tomlin was a very close second with Nutter third. In th e regular acti on, Dubb Fer rell who has a few years on so me of fue old timers, won his second Costa Mesa Scratch main o f 1987. Steve Lucero was off the pole with Ferrell, on th e JR Concrete Pumping/Puente R eady Mlx/STP / Quaker St:ite/RK Chain Weslake, out of two. Lucero gated the field but he momentarily parked in tu m two and Ferrell streaked by on the o u tside. Schwartz tried to ge t by Lucero as well but he didn 't have the spee d.
