Keezer claims Tinkham Trials win By Gary Lawver T IN KHAM, WA, ocr. 4 Carol Keezer won the Novice B class with 17 points a nd 15 cleans as the Pu get Sound Trialers held the firs t part of a two -part series at Tinkham. Mike Erickson took second wit h 24 points and 17 cleans. The Novice A class featured very close competition as Will Flint bea t 15 riders wi th a 35/1 7 sco re. Second p lace was decided by cleans wit h Lonnie Hall sted bea ting Ma rk Leibo ld by four clea ns, 14-10. In the Intermediate class Bob Fries won with a score of 52/1 0 followed by Eric Means and Torn Kem per. Adva nced clas s winner was Ch uc k Bassett wi th a score of 39/ 15. Matthews, Reynolds rule Wares Ferry MX By Hugh Gatlin 30 MONTGOMERY, AL, SEPT. 27 Suzuki -mounted Chance Matthews a nd Kawasaki rider Ryan Reynolds were th e dominant forces in Mini raci ng.at ro und four of the .$ 11,000 G eorg ia Cycl e Su p p ly Fall MX Seri es, hosted by War es Ferry MX Park. Matthews topped both motos of the Senior Mini a nd Super Mini classes, but didn't ha ve a ny room for error. A hard-riding Brian Ra ymond chased Matthews all da y long, finishing runner-up in both classes. Reyno lds, p laying the rol e of iron man, rode to unchallenged victories in the Junior Mini and 60cc class. H e also entered the Super Min i class , comi ng out o n top of a points tie with J ohnny Dea n for thi rd overall. Matthews holesho t the first Super Mini motowith fellow Suzuki rider Dean second. Ra ym ond moved u p a nd wedged himself between the yellow machines on th e fourth la p. Positions held steady to the finis h with Reynolds p lacing fourth. Matthews led the second moto followed by Ra ymond and Brian Sto kes. T he three pulled away fro m the pack. Ra ymond was on the gas , passing Ma tt hews down a straightaway, on ly to ru n' deep into the next berm. Ma tthews went back out front for good. Raymo nd held on to second and Reyn olds took third. Ma tt hews controlled the start of the first 18-rider Senior Mini moto, followed by Sto kes and Dea n. Wh il e Raymond was cu tti ng through th e p ack , Dean moved into seco nd . Raymond passed Dean in th e sta dium sectio n' of th e track a nd shadowed Ma tthews to the flag. Dean fin ish ed third. Once again, Matthew s was o u t front early in th e final moto. H e and Raymond o utdi sta nced th e field a nd finish ed 1-2. Sha n no n Brooker came o ut on top of a fierce ba tt le for th ird ahead of Dean and Bill y Cantrell. In 250cc A raci ng, Ho nda rider Darryl H eisler led both rno tos over Yama ha of Pra ttville's David Kell y. Each ti me out Kelly took the lead . th rou gh the. s tadium whoops. H ei sl er stayed close until Kell y pulled a way for safe wins. Joe Rogers p laced third. Ya m ah a-mounted Sha ne Pen e passed early leader Chris Ba ker in the first I25cc C moto, Pene built a huge lead an d rode on to hi s first mot o win of th e series. Point-lead er Kevin Beaver moved into second a t the hal fway po int and finis hed ahead of Ba ker. Beaver led th e second moto wireto-wire. Bill Beltz came o ut on top of a five-rider ba ttle for second. Pen e went from sixth to th ird, cla im ing second overall behind Bea ver. After winning th e first 250cc C mot o, Kawasaki rider T ony Morris ran behind T erry Pa rh am in th e seco nd h eat. Se r ies leader Tim H awkins moved fro m mid pack to thi rd. On the white flag lap a ra pi d ly tirin g Parham came under heavy pressure fro m Mor ris and Hawkins. Knowing he needed to pass for the overall win, Morris used an insi de lin e th rough the stadi um whoops a nd pulled even with Pa rham . Morris clipped Parham 's rear whee l and went down. Meanwhi le, T im Kirkl and and Robert H unter picked their way u p th rough th e pack, but go t sto pped dead in their tracks whe n a lapped rider blocked them in a tum. Kirkl and go t back on the gas first. Indiveri a nd Ell is were long go ne a nd ra gi ng a battle for th e lead. Ellis won out to claim the win. Hunter passed Kirkland a nd finish ed a distant third. Ellis wrapped up th e overall when he nailed th e second rnot o win a head of Indiveri , who was second overa ll. Ma y's third pl ace finish nett ed him fo urth overall and Hunter, with h is 3-4 tally, went home with a third place trophy. T he Cycle Shopl P ire ll il P lastic Works-sponsored Barry Sanders put h is Kawasaki o ut front a t th e start of the first 80cc 13-15 moto and held it o n u nti l Youngbl ood cu t his Yamaha under h im entering th e first turn to take over the lead . Daryl Yo ungblood mov ed into the seco nd place positi on and' th e two pulled away lea ving some hot dicing behind the m. Derek held o nto th e lead unti l he fell a nd got passed by Da ryl. Dary l held the lead to tak e the win as Derek ga ve it all he had to fin ish second. Anthony Paggio worked h is way up to fin ish third a hea d of David Bailey, Craig Ecker t and Sanders. Derek claimed th e lead a t the start of moto two, bu t had Daryl cha rgi n g righ t behind h im. Derek cras hed on th e fro nt straigh t allowing Da ryl to shoot into the lead . Roben Hunter (Hon). lindsay wins at Ottawa Egg Hunt By Paul Hayes OTTAWA, IL, SEPT. 27 Shane Lindsay topped th e Pee Wee class at the Vari ety R iders MIC sponsored Egg H unt. Lindsay was th e top point ge tter in both motos. H e scored 53 in th e first 15 minute moto, the n came back and collected 3 1 poin ts for an overall score of 84. T he Cogh ill famil y took the next three p laces. Seco nd went to Mickala , who had a final score of 71. Chanse had 60 points for third, then came Shannon wi th 59 points. Mark Mason mad e th e most scoring trips in the Min i class. H e was also the top point getter during bo th mo tos. H e scored 38 and 40 for a final of 78. T om Daniels' fin al tall y of 64 was good for seco nd, and Bria n N ich ol son ro unded o ut th e top three with a 48. In th e 86-200 class the overa ll went to Denn is Mor ch . H e sco red 28 po ints in the first rnot o, came back in mot o two a nd carded a 40. Ch ad Marsha ll co uldn 't put togeth er a good first moto bu t hi s 40 poin ts scored in the fin a l mot o put him in second p lace with 63. Coming in one . po int beh ind was Bill Seni ca. .
