Fred Hull (Suz) Richardson romps to Glen Helen GP By David Procida SAN BERNARDINO, CA, SEPT. 7 Rod R ichardson held off rivals J erry Black and Greg Fountain to win the 250cc Expert class at Doublecross Racing 's No Sweat Grand Prix he ld at Gl en Helen OHV Park. Fountain powered his O ra ng e County Cycle's Yamaha into the first corner ahead of DMC/Kawasakimounted Richardson and Pro Circuit/Mission Viejo Honda's Black with , the pack clos e behind. At the end of lap one, Richardson was pressuring Fountain for the lead with Black not more than a couple of bike lengths behind. Richardson powered by for the lead after doubling the tripl e and diving under ,Fo u nta in . On lap two Black fail ed to show up for almost 90 seconds. Black had slammed a berm that didn 't hold and sent him into the bushes. Back up front Richardson had started to pull away from Fountain. Running in third was Hondamounted Lu c Deley with Black now ba ck o n the track running in fourth. At th e halfway point Bla ck had gotten by Deley and was closing on Fountain. Ri ch ardson had pulled o u t to a 30 seco nd lead and wasn't about to slow down . Black closed to th e rear fender of Fountain and two laps lat er p a ssed him in so m e whoops..Black then set hi s sigh ts on Ri ch ardson and closed to within 15 seconds as the race came to a close. Chancey charges at OcalaMX By Gwen Millan OCALA, FL , AUG. 15 Ch ad Ch an cey scored the overall win in the Mini C cla ss at the eigh th round of th e FMC Summer Seri es at Oca la. Randy C h u m led the pa ck off the lin e at th e start o r th e first mot o. He was being clos ely foll ow ed by Chanc~y who had set hi s goa ls on Chum. Mik e T idey was wasting no tim e as he man euv ered a line keeping him a hea d o f Noel Kitsch , wh o was fast ga in ing o n him. It took five laps but steady pressure paid off a nd Chancey found hi s way around Chum. The white flag la p saw Chancey a nd Ch um still o ne a nd two with lapped riders now a maj or factor. T idey lost third a nd dropped way back, Kitsch moved into third and was fending o ff Dees wh o had Za c Freeman to co nte nd with. Unt il thi s first mot o ended o ne lap later , positions held. In the seco nd mo to it was Cha ncey in first as the first lap was com p leted with Freeman not too far behind. Kitsch a nd Dees were on ly a heartbeat away . Ch an cey stead ily gained gro und on each la p. Lap five was a devastating o ne for T idey as he was for ced to accep t a DNF. Steve Christin son moved to the number five spo t. Street tops Galesburg HC By Paul Hayes GALESBU RG, IL, SEPT.1 3 Jim Street put together his best ride in recent years to come o ut on top of th e high ly co m pe tetive SOOcc clas s at th e Ga lesburg M/C sponsored , AMA/Dist. 17 sanctioned hillclimb. Street li ned h is Kawasa ki up to th e 130 foot hill, twis ted the throttle and busted over th e top in 4.49 seconds during round one. Honda-mounted Jim Steffey used hi s second climb o f 4.60 to claim the runner-up spot. Kawtown Kawa saki/Beta-sponso red Ron Todd rounded ou t th e top three, a lso usin g hi s last ride. Hi s tim e was 4.61. Tri- City Cycles, Bill Tuman a nd Krau s Racing a re th e sponso rs of 250cc cla ss winn er Brent Stewart. H e took the win with hi s fin a l ride o f 4.69. His first ride carried him ove r th e 120 fo o t hi ll in 3.581 seco nds. Blakeney is sponsored by 'P ro Tech. T he Steffey bro thers clai med the ne xt two positions. Ji m Steffey turned a sligh tly faster tim e then younger brother Bill. They both had thei r best rides in ro u nd one. Jim had a 3.596 while Bill recorded a 3.636. Ron Todd found the fastest way u p the h ill. H is fina l attempt of 3.562 proved to be the fastest time a t th e night h ill clim b. With it he a lso clai med the top honors in the 400cc class. Todd is sponsored by Kawto wn Ka wasa ki /Beta. Alan " Aikey" H oskins rode his Yamaha to seco nd overa ll wi th a fina l ride of 3.924. Torque-Cen ter sponsored, Yamahamounted Kaleb Northrup rounded out the top th ree, ridi ng over the top in 4.043 seconds in round two . Ed Scott was a doub le class win ner.
