Mike Larson (5 5) leads Tommy Watts in t he 500cc Pro class. Watts handed Larson t he win when he f ell in both motos. (- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Jimmy Gaddis and Lewis . As the moto came to a close Craig took th e win and overa lI folIowed by Davis and Wooten . Young was fourth in the moto and Gaddis took fifth. The first round of 250cc Pro action saw Surratt cap ture th e holeshotbut swing wide in the turn, letting Watts through on the inside. Surratt maintained second ahead of Davis and Honda-mounted Kelly Andris. By the end of lap five Watts was already five seconds ahead of Surratt and pulling furth er away every lap. Andris moved by Davi s and Craig had gone to fifth; the three riders were very tighly grouped. Davis charged and took control of third, only to have his chain snap and put him out of the race. Andris took over third while Jon Nelson moved by . Craig for fourth. On lap 12 Craig made his move, charging through some whoops and bouncing by Nelson. Craig then went to work on Andris and waited until th e last lap to shoot by Andris over th e top of a hill to take third just before th e finish. Watts had no problem taking th e win ahead of Surratt. At th e start of th e second round Brian Pryor nailed th e holes hot ahea d of Wat ts, Nel son, Craig and Davis . Pryor led up to th e long uphill wh ere Watts skied past him and landed in the lead on th e downside. P ryor tri ed to get Watts at the bottom, onl y to have Watts shut the door in th e n ext turn. Things remained the same until lap five when Nelson slipped by Pryor and took con tro l of second. A few laps later Craig also got by, dropping Pryor to fourth. This made the order Watts way out in front followed by Nelson, Craig, Pryor and Dav is. Surratt held sixth. Craig was the only rider on the move and charged by Nelson when he held it on lo nger approaching a turn. Positions were then set and Watts took the win followed by Craig; Nelson, Pryor and Davis. Craig was the runner-up overall to Watts and Surratt's 2-6 score was good for third overall. When the 500cc Pros hit the track for the first time it was Larson who rook control a nd was followed closely by O'Donnell. A first turn pile-up halted many riders but all managed to rem ount and get underway. On th e first lap O 'Donnell slipped into th e lead when Larso n got a little out of shape. At this point Watts had fou nd his way past Mik e Dunlap and res ted right behind Larson in third. Dunlap held fourth j ust ahead of Rich Mythen. Watts go t around Larson and started to clos e in o n O'Donnell, while Mythen began to move closer to Dunlap. By the end of the third lap th e Watts/O 'Donnell duel had put a 13 second gap on Larson. On lap four O 'DonnelI got- out of shape and dropped to third, putting Watts in the lead. By lap six Watts had generated a 16 second lead an d looked to be pulling ahead even further until he slid out and felI. This let Larson by and that was all he needed. Larson quickly moved ahead and O'DonnelI got by too as Watts remounted and gave chase. By th e end of lap seven th e only change in th e top five was when Kawasaki rider Dan Berg got by a fading Dunlap and took control of fifth. From th en o n the field spread out and when th e moto ended Larson cruised in for an easy win followed by O 'Donnell , Watts, Mythen and Berg. Watts nailed the seco nd mo to hol eshot followed by Larson , Myth en , O 'Donnell and H onda'm o unt ed J im Ortner. By th e end of the second lap Watts was already into a sizeab le lead over Larson, but Larson poured on th e gas a n d amazingly got by him through a turn just before the big table top. Myth en was having problems with his bik e a nd was dropping back until he retired with rear brake problems. Watts a lso sto pped at the sa me tim e wh en he slid o u t and fell again. Watts quickly remounted but Ortner slipped by to move into second. Watts shot back and began to rid e at a wild pace as he chased down Ortner. O 'DonnelI controlIed fourth ahead of Honda-mounted J eff Reynolds. Ortner wasn 't abl e to mat ch Watts' pace and was passed, bu t any hopes Watts had of catching Larson were slim as Larson was long gone. In 250cc Pro .act ion Watts had no probl em s and left the competit ion in his roost as he easily won bo th motos. Craig scored second overall . Ortner dropped back even farth er and O'Donnell was able to get by on the last lap just 30 feet from the finish line. Larson took the win followed by _Wa tts, O'Donnell, Ortner and Reynolds. The first moto of the Vet/Old Timer Intermediate race saw Gary Ja ehne tak e th e hol eshot followed by Brad Sloan and KelIy Myers. Jaehne couldn't handle the pace up front and started to drop back and Myers led from the second lap to the end. Larry Lace y mo ved up to finish seco nd and Gary Selby took third. In moto two La cey grabbed th e hol eshot and took th e win ahead of Myers and Mark Arthur. Lace y got the overall win and Myers finished second overall. The Veteran Masters ra ce was a brutal sto mp ing by Phil Douglas. H e hol eshot both mot os and led from start 10 finish. Russ Dal ey took seco nd overalI with a 3-2 ride and th ird went to Duane Hughes. • Results 60 (0-8) : 1. Adam Hawkins (Kaw); 2. Jerry Harvey (Kaw); 3 . David Keeney (Han); 4 .
