Marchant marches at Marion County MX By Gwen Millan REDDICK, FL , AUG. 9 Jim Marchant took the overall victo ry in th e Sen ior clas s at the seven th round of FMC's Summer Series held at Motocross of Marion County. Marchant led the first mo to from start to fin ish then went from third to first in the second round. Grabbing an early lead in moto one was Marchant aboard his green ma ch in e. FMC's current poi nts leader Robert Proctor was giving chas e and Mike Reynolds on an MStar was making h is presence felt in thi rd . Dicing it for fourth and fift h was Michael Smith a n d Denny Hunter, bo th on H ondas. T he se riders all mainta in ed a fast pace not letting anyone get enough of an edge to change positions un til the white £lag lap when Hunter cased it over a jump and took thi rd for his own leavin g fourth to Reynolds. As th e checkered £lag climaxed the race Marchant held his commanding lead to claim the win. Proctor took second with Hun ter closing in whi le Reynolds and Smith closed up th e top five spots. The second mo to saw a dramatic ' turn of events as Proctor was th e head honcho at the end of la p one wit h Honda rider Dave Ellis, who di dn't run the first mo to , in seco nd. Marchant was in third a nd was being chased by Reynolds. In a close fifth was Robert Godfrey, FMC' s Senior class champ last year . Marchant marched h is wa y fro m third to first in style. Proctor and Ellis were in tight formation with Godfrey slic ing his way around Reynol ds for fourth. . The third la p still saw Marchant going at it and Ellis stealing past Proctor. Desp ite intense p ressu re Reyno lds cou ld no t get back around Godfrey. Marchant, E llis , and Proc tor were followed across th e finish li ne by Godfrey and Reynol ds in fourth and fifth.
