Defending 750cc Champion and runner-up in last year's 11 OOcc final, Doug Polen, will be featured in the Suzuki GSXR Finals at Riverside.

Club racers set to
invade Riverside
The fastest club road racers in the country'
will venture west to compete for $60,000 in
the Suzuki GSXR750 and .1100' National
Cup Series finale at Riverside (California)
International Raceway on
October 10-11. Leading the
way will be last year's big
winner from the Road Atlanta

final, defending champion in the 750
and runner-up in the IIOO<:c classes,
respectively, Texan Doug Polen.
This year's finale will include a
showdown in the Yamaha Western
600 Series, where 20 riders from
northern and southern California .
have qualified to run for the $15,000
in Yamaha contingency on FZ600s.
Unlike last year, there will be no
Honda contingency races in this
year's even t.
When the sun set on the 1986 final
held at the scenic Road Atlanta road
course, Polen came away the big,
winner with his victory in the 750cc
class and his second place in the
Il00cc ranks. Polen added a win in
the Honda 500cc Interceptor series
to.further pad his pocketbook.
This year Polen may have a
tougher time emerging from the
pack. Although he is the top-ranked
rider in the field from AMA/Camel
Pro Series road race Nationals in
1987, Polen crashed heavily at the
final round at Sears Point and broke
both his ankles. He has been recovering at home and says he's ready
for Riverside, barely.
"The ankles are good enough to
ride," the Texan said. "I'm not 100
~rcent, but it'll be okay. I'm going
