Jones took the hqleshot in moto one on his 500cc Honda as KTM rider Ray Waddell gave a close chase. Three laps into the race Jones stalled his motor and Waddell trIed to sneak by. Jones got going in time to race Waddell to the next turn, then Waddell stalled his motor and Jones kept his lead. Dave Brown moved to second but stalled his motor, giving Maico-mounted Tom J-lager the position. Rick Yarrow came from way back and almost passed Hager on the last lap', but had to settle for third. Waddell had trouble getting his bike going and ended up sixth. In moto two Jones got the holeshot again and ran away with the race. Waddell cruised the moto in second while Yarrow and Scott Hochstein had a good battle over third. Yarrow got second overall with a 3-3 finish and Waddell got third with a 6-2 score. Honda-mounted Dave Huber bolted ou t of the starting grid 10 take a commanding lead in the first 125cc A class moto. Todd Ramsey latched on to Huber's rear fender, but Huber made no mistakes and took the win. In moto two Ramsey took the holeshot with Huber way back as the pack headed around turn one. Huber was. on the move and passed several riders on the first two laps. Huber soon moved into second and ran down Ramsey. Huber drag-raced Ramsey down an off-camber straight and took over the lead and the win. A large Mini Senior class was on hand and Brent Ouellette took the holeshot with Mack VanderBeek in the second position. VanderBeek wasted no time and shot past Ouellette on the doubles to take the win. Moto two was nearly an instant replay as Ouellette took the holeshot and VanderBeek moved by on the first lap (or the win. The two riders outdistanced the rest of the pack by a large margin. Ambs finished second in the 25 Plus class. Dean wins Hyman Myers Motocross By Athie Sanders TALLAHASSEE, FL, SEPT. 5 Barr's Competition/HRP/P J - lsponsored Ryan Dean claimed the overall win in the 125cc C class during round three of the Budweisersponsored Southeastern Championship Series at Hyman Myers Raceway. Dean jumped out front at the start of the first 125cc C moto. Russell Grater and Ryan Fenn foll.owed him out of the first turn and the three pulled slightly away. Fourth place rider Wesley Griffin, fighting to hold off Kei th Jones, set the pace for the rest of the pack. Grater [ell, allowing Fenn to move in and put the pressure on Dean.'Dean held it out front until a deep mud-rutted turn took him out. Fenn moved into the lead, leaving Dean struggling to dislodge his bike from the tacky rain-soaked clay. He remounted and got back on the gas before third place rider J ones got around him. Jones closed on Dean but lost it in a set of whoops, forcing him to settle with' an 11th place finish. Fenn cruised to the win well ahead of second place Dean. Kevin Hale steadily moved up throughout the moto and claimed third ahead of Griffin and Preston Tyson. Jared King, who elected not to ride the first moto, pulled the holeshot in moto two then rode out front to the wiri. Grater was second into the (irst turn, but Dean and Fenn worked their way around him before then, and headed down the back straight and took the doubles side-by-side. Fenn lost it and went end-over-end, reentering the race at the end of the pack. Dean settled into a comfortable second place position while Jones worked his way into third. Bike problems caused Grater to drop back to a 13th place finish. Fenn p~c~ed his way up through the pack to fImsh fourth ahead of Tyson. Dean claimed the overall, Fenn nailed second with his 1-4 moto tally and Tyson's 55 score was good enough fOT third. Results 60: 1. Jason Sybert (Han); 2. Kim Sybert (Han). 85 A: 1. Ryan Dean (Kaw). Multiple winners at Roebling RR .By Bob Applegate FAULKVILLE, GA, SEPT. 5-6 Three days of constant downpours failed to dampen the spirits of road racers at Roebling Road as Grahapt ]ames,-Bob Green, Mike Smith and Russell Moffitt all picked up multiple wins. The weekend began with an 100mile endurance event with 36 entries braving the weather that va,ried from a light drizzle to a solid downpour. At the 'drop of the green flag, Atlanta's Bob Green jumped out in the lead on his Yamaha FZR750 ahead o( FZRlOOO-mounted Robert Bradley trailed by Bob Rentzell, Rick Shaw and Danny Roberts. Green built a respectable lead on the Don Caison/Team Visa machine and appeared to have the field whipped until pulling in unexPectedly. The bike went behind the pit wall with team members and rider working 10 pull off an exhaust system that had broken at the connection to the header. The stop cost the team at' least one full lap before they were able to reenter the race. Several entries dropped' out early with swamped carburetors, fogged faceshields, and poor performing tires. Both Yokohama and Dunlop tire reps had spent hours prior to race time hand grooving slicks as well as DOT tires for the weekend. By the hal£~ay point, ~rgia's Robert Rentzell had worked hIS way into the lead and began to put serious yardage on the field with Bradley holding on to second, Todd Trumble third and Steve Seaborn fourth, also. on a Hurricane. Trumble began to experience problems and a rash of unscheduled pit stops put Seaborn into the number three spot. The early leader, Green had put on a big push to work his way back into the lead lap utilizing his rain riding experience from his Stricks Cycle endurance racing days (1984 AMA/CCS Lightweight Endurance Champions). In the final laps it was Rentzell, Bradley and Green on the lead lap, with Seaborn, and Stan Dilcher one lap down followed by sixth place Rick Shaw, Hilton Taylor, Danny Roberts, Michael Tiberio and Pennsylvania's Suzanne Brightbill rounding out the top 10. 35
