Craig Johnson (26Z) led at the start of the Junior final at Springfield. Johnson finished second to Kevin.Atherton (second from left). Corey Cope won the 250cc Pro overall at Cheyenne. Jones' four moto sweep started with the Schoolboy class as he rode two flawless races grabbing the lead in the first turn and holding the top spot to the checkered flag. Each time the gate dropped, KTM-mounted Chris Gr.asso was second through turn one and followed Jones thoughout the five"lap moto. Jones ran up over 25 seconds in both motos over Grasso. Steve Woolege and Jason Balas followed the two front-runners with Wooledge finishing inches behind Grasso in heat two. Grasso went on to win both motos of the 125cc C class. Jones remounted his Kawasaki once again for the 125cc B class and duplicated his Schoolboy class finishes with double moto wins. Honda-mounted Tony Boyas gave Jones a run for first as he grabbed the lead in the first tum with Jones and Chuck Adams trailing. However it was Jones passing through the scoring area first to begin the second lap, three seconds ahead of Boyas and Adams. In the second moto, Jones had the lead going into the first turn but lost it to everyone when he landed on the ground. Boyas grabbed the lead trailed by Adams and the rest of the riders. Jones ma,y have been down but he wasn't out as he joined the pack in last place and began picking off the riders ahead of him. Within the first lap Jones was in second behind Boyas. Slick track conditions, caused by rain, began taking irs toll on the riders and Boyas was the first victim. While Boyas picked himself up off the ground, Jones took over the lead followed by Adams and Wooledge. Boyas rejoined the riders but once ·again was victimized by track conditions and took a DNE Jones raced under the checkered flag 16 seconds ahead of Wooledge, Dave Sulecki and Adams. Cope back on top at Cheyenne MX By Larry Johnson CHEYENNE, WY, SEPT. 6 Corey Cope saw his luck change for the better today when he won the 250cc Pro class when the Cheyenne Cycle Club hosted its last SRAC event of the season. It had been seven , races since he won an overall in the 250cc Pro class. The last six races were won by Stacey Cook, earning five in a row and Kip Sandell, the most recent winner. Cook looked to be on his way to another win and a sweep of the three Cheyenne races this season. He led all but one lap of moto one, while Cope was busy displacing Sandell and Derek Brown to finish second.. Brown finished third with Saridell fourth. Cook took the lead ahead of Sandell and Cope in round two. But Cope Muffed inside Sandell on lap two; knocking him off the track. Three laps later Cope slid underneath Cook for the lead and opened up a four second gap by lap nine. Cook's bike seized at that point, and Cope rolled home far ahead of Sandell and Brown. Brown entered his first Open Pro race of the year and won both motos. He holeshot round one ahead of Dave Newell and the two ran in order all the way to the checkers. Newell was first out of the gate in moto two. Brown was right behind, then Newell's month-long stretch of bad luck grabbed him when he slipped on the dry, slick surface trying to negotiate a right-hand hairpin and went down. Brown took over and won easily while Newell eventually recovered from sixth to finish second ·ahead.of Tom Allard. Cook continued his domination of the 125cc Pros. He won both motos to give him a clean sweep of six moto wins at Cheyerme for. the season. Keith Campbell led both motos early and finished third each time behind ,Tim Buchli. The 80cc Experts saw a new winner today. Every previous overall has gone to Andy Atkins or Scott Fulcher, but ]eremy Middaugh beat them both today. Results 60 NOV: 1. Scott Baxter (Klw); 2.
