ROCKTON, IL, AUG. 29-110 Yamaha of Port Washington's John Eidenburger wrapped up three Midwest Region Championships at the final round of AMA/CCS sprint racing with wins in Heavyweight and Unlimited Superbike and a third in the Middleweight race LO clinch that title. Miller American Racing's Brad Lowe turned in a flawless ride on his super fast Yamaha RZ!I50 to capture the Lightweight Superbike Expert win while David Darabosh and Kevin Gau bauled it out in the Novice ranks with Darabosh getting the nod and winning the title with a scant seven points LO spare. Formula One featured a race-long duel between points leader Eric Moe and challenger Phil Schmidt, pitting Moe's Suzuki against the 750cc Yamaha of Camel Pro regular Schmidt. Schmidt took the checkered flag, but Moe's points lead did not diminish and the Suzuki-mounted rider took the Midwest Region F-I Championship. One unforgetable name in the Novice ranks for the Midwest 1987 season has been Ernest Oxenknecht. The big 0 nailed down an amazing five of seven classes with three of them decided at Blackhawk Farms. Going into the final round the Milwaukee rider held 19 points over Jeff Plummer in Middleweight Superbike Expert, 15 points over Bruce Bain in Middleweight Supersport, and was four points down to Rod Menke in the Heavyweight Supersport. A clear win in Middleweight Superbike and a second in Middleweight Supersport wrapped up the titles in those two, and a third in the close one, Heavyweight Superbike, with Menke finishing 11th sewed it up for Oxenltnecht. Another big winner was Huff's Honda-sponsored Doug Callies, who clinched the F-I Expert title when points leader Tom Kipp's ride went sour. Callies won over Yamahamounted Charles Buse in both F-2 and Middleweight Superbike on 'his Honda CB600 Hurricane as well as winning the final Midwest region lOO-mile endurance race overall. The endurance was "a lOO-mile sprint-paced race with Kim Papierniak, Greg Comstock and Callies swapping the lead several times. At the end, Comstock moved around Papieniak for second with Callies taking the win by a mere 10 seconds: Ironically, Callies was not in the hunt for the season point fund prize money. Taking the GTO points win and $1100 was Aunt Betty's Deli! LaGrange Highlands Yamahasponsored David Maish with Comstock second ($180) and Papiemiak third ($120). In the GTU ranks Kurt Horvath held a three-point lead over Mike Karm for the win with David Doe third. Horvath and Doe rode Kawasakis while Karm used a 'Yamaha FZ600. , Results uw S/BK EX: 1.
