Twin-piston floating calipers highlight the disc brake systems found on the new KTMs. fenders, and the "Trophy" model provides better mud deflection and styling. Wider, more protective and break-resistant rock guards are mounted on the front fork legs. The throttle assemblies are aluminum Magura units which are more damage resistant and provide consistently smoother throttle action. Redesigned seats, tall for moto-. cross models and low for the enduros, are now make of ·medium density foam that reportedly is comfortable as well as durable. Frame geometry has been changed slightly by increasing' the trail to improve straight line stability while maintaining agile steering. An additional frame cross member beneath the engine strengthens the frame structure and reduces vibration. Mounting brackets for silencers have been reinforced, and silencer packing is spring loaded for easier replacememo Rear brake anchor rod heim joints have been increased from eight to 10mm. The front 4054 White Power forks have new "Protec" valving, allowing stiffer springs with less preload to be used and less destruction to the fork oil. The fork seals have been redesigned to reduce drag yet minimize the possibility of leakage. . At the rear, the White' Power shock valving has also been changed to allow for use of stiffer springs with less preload to reduce harshness. Shock linkage bearing seals havebeen improved for better contamination resIstance, lower maintenance and easier replacement. . Disc brake systems, both front and rear, are new. The front features a two piston floating caliper with rigid disc, thicker brake pads and a stronger brake hose l:asmg. The rear system has the same new items plus an integral mud guard, reduced piston/brake pad contact .and more disc to wheel hub contact to draw heat away from the brake system. Air filter servicing will be made easier with a new snap fit airbox cover. . New $!.aphics, seat and engine covers wl1l distinguish the '88 models fro'm last year's machines. All of the motocross bikes feature new Del'Orto flat slide, oval bore carburetors. Only the 250cc Enduro model shares the same carb; the 350 has a standard carburetor. The 125 features several internal engine ch"nges. The cylinder head has been redesigned for more efficient cooling and there is a new piston. The transmission has been improved with wider gears, forged shifting forks and improved shift drum. A new Tri-Port Exhaust system on the 500 Motocross' features two extra exhaust ports, and there is a higher compression ratio.
