The LC4 engine, which has been in development since 1984, is a liquid cooled, single-cylinder, four-stroke powerplant with a displacement of 552.9cc. It produces a claimed 50.1 horsepower at 8075 rpm. Engine coolant is circulated by an electric waterpump and coolant temperature is balanced by a 'thermostat. Four valves are operated by a chain driven overhead camshaft and control the ~asses within th·e Mahle nikasil unpregnated cylinder. Carburetion is handled by a 38mm Del 'Orto. Starting is made easier with a valve lift-decompression engaged by the kick-starter. Power is delivered to the rear wheel through a five-speed transmission. The larger brake calipers are self-aligning and floating, allowjng for solid mounted discs, and have 2mm thicker brake pads. Flex-free brake lines connect the calipers to the master cylinders.
