Allen Berluti (71) leads overall winner Mike Larson (55) at the start of the first 500cc Pro moto in round two of the Trans-Cal Series. Rick Ryan (1) leads Jeff Matiasevich in the first 125cc Pro moto. Ryan won the 125cc Pro class. while Matiasevich took the 250cc Pro honors. Larson's only competition came from Kawasaki rider Tommy Watts who trailed him in both moto; but just couldn't mount , h an assualt on Larson s uge leads. RIck Ryan won the 125cc Pro class despite injuring his back in the first moto. Il?ug Dubach, aboard a 1988 producnon Yamaha YZ125, took second, narrowly beating Ty Davis. In moto one of the 500cc Pro class, Allen Berluti led right 0(£ the line followed by Kawasaki-mounted Larson, Watts, Dan Berg and Mythen. Larson was immediately pressuring Berluti and moved into the lead when Berluti got out of shape. Berluti's bobble also allowed Watts and Berg to go by before he recovered slightly ahead of Mythen. Fora while Watts was staying with Larson and trying to get by through every tum, but Larson's blistering pace began to carry him ahead of Watts. By the end of lap five, Larson had generated . a six-second lead.over Watts.. A baule for thud was shapmg up when Mythen closed in on Berluti and took fourth from him down the long straight. Mythen then began to inch his way closer to Berg, who held third, and trailed him for the next few laps. Finally, on lap II, Mythen made his move, diving underneath Berg in a rough turn to take third. The race ended with Larson motoring in for the win, followed by Watts Mythen Berg and Willy Simons. ' , When the gate dropped for the second moto Larson nailed the holeshot and' took control. Honda rider Doug O'Donnell was in second while My then held third over Baluti and Watts. On the second lap, Watts was on the move. He slipped by Mythen and O'Donnell to move up to second, making the top five Larson, Watts, O'Donnell, Mythen, and Berluti. On lap five, Simons got by Berluti for fifth and started moving toward the top four, who were pulling away from the field. At that point, Larson and Watts held a solid 17-second lead over O'Donnell, while Mythen had his hands full holding off a hardcharging Simons. On the seventh lap, Mythen went wide when he
