Green SUMMIT POINT, WV, AUG. 22-23 Barney Bernstein ca me away from the WERA Regi onal Sprint races at Summit Point with $2300 in Suzuki co nt inge ncy money and $200 in AG V mon ey o n h i s Metz el erl AG VI D.LD I Fu ll Bore Boo ts GSXR750. Bernstein's first win came in th e B Production race wh ich he won easily from Greg T ysor. Dave Sadowski was racing at Summit Point for th e firs t tim e and was not too con fident on the slippery two mi le circu it, fin a lly finishing third. Kurt Hall had not raced at Summit Point for a year and he was happy with a fourth pl ace fini sh after leading for th e first two laps. Gl en Szarek, ridin g a Yamaha FZ750, was co m pletely a t home o n th e track but cra shed while cha lle ngin g T ysor for seco nd pl ace. The same riders lin ed up for th e A Production event. T ysor was th e early leader but pulled in after he was docked a lap for jumpin g th e start . That left Bernstein ou t front with Szarek close behind. Szarek took th e lead at th e halfway mark but ran wid e braking into turn one on th e fin al lap allo wing Bernstein to win by three seco nds. J eff Atwell took wins in A Superbik e, B Superbike and Formula One on his A&F/Mi chelin /Sh oei /Spec LTOSuzuki, and he pi cked up a fo urt h victory in C Superbike on his Honda Hurrican e. Bruce Nield led from th e start of th e Formula One race and Atwell slo wly reeled him in as th e race progressed. Atwell took th e lead outbraking Nield into turn on e but Ni eld 's horsepower advantage showed as he repassed Atwell on th e main straight. Atwell got back in front but Nield was confident he cou ld pa ss him again as they headed for the checkered. Dan was regarded as on e of th e fastest up a nd com ing rid ers in the sou th east before suffering a tragi c cra sh last yea ~, requirin ~ mo.nths of hospita lizauon. But If this race was a ny indication, Dan 's back , fast as ever. As th e gate dropped on th e first moto T on y Bishop led th e way with Li scomb's Ho nda not far behind. By th e halfw ay p oint o f th e m or o Liscomb had overco me Bish op and was o n hi s way 10 th e win. In rnoto two, it was all Liscomb as he took th e lead in the first turn and pulled away to tak e the win. Tony Bishop again placed seco nd followed clo sely by La nce Northrup. In the Mini action it was all Danny Haynes and Johnny Dean . Haynes again proved to be the only double class winner as he completel y dominated both the Junior Mini and Junior Cycle classes, winning all four motos han dil y. Warren back on track at APE Speedway By Todd Kroh GREEN E, NY, AUG . 22 After a year anda half layoff Mik e Warren decid ed to en ter a speedway even t at Action Park East Speedway and showed he had not lost hi s raci ng edge as he wo n th e H andicap main event. Warren Diem racked up yet a nother win in Scra tch raci ng as all the rid ers were preparing fo r th e upcoming East Coast Championship . Warren came to th e track read y but had mechanica l trouble with hi s bike. George Lewi s happened to show up at the trac k with all hi s mach in ery bu t forgot his leathers and hel met. T he two mad e a perfect pair as Lewi loan ed War ren hi s Weslak e and off he wen t. T h is was Warren 's first ride o n the En gl ish made machi ne so it took h im h is firs t H an dicap race to sort it o ut and fin ish in th e runner-up spo t to T om Burge. In th e semi fin al he appeared mired in a non-transfer spot until Mark Edward s too k himself o ut of the race wit h a 360. War ren aga in fin ished in seco nd, thi s tim e behind Len Dillon. The other sem i sa w Warren Diem leap from fifth to first o n o ne lap as he dominated th e race and fin ished on top of J ohn Kehoe and Burge. Diem inched closer on the final th ree la ps but the outsid e tra ction had gone away. Warren fini shed ahead of Diem , Kehoe , Burge, Daily and Dillon. Pearce went o n to tak e the win over La nd and J ones. Pear ce was back out in fro nt after th e main even t start's sorting o u t period. Land pressured him bu t co uldn' t pull off a pass. J orgen sen , Mike Gonzal es and J on es foll owed the two front runners. At th e d rop of th e checkered flag it was Pearce with th e win , La nd seco nd and J orgen sen third.
