Pat Poland (16) and Greg Richardson dice in the Vet class at Kincaid Park. Jeff Mabery flew to a pair bf firsts to wrap up the victory in the 250cc Pro class at L.A. County Raceway. 34 rider, Herbi e Callen, III, did a fantastic job of holding Wait off, but Wait managed to sq ueeze by h im comingout o f turn two on the last lap when' Callen went just a little too wide. Callen recovered to keep the th ird spot while they both chased after Zemke, who wasn't all that far ahead. Zemke held on to first at the finish followed by Wait in second, Callen in third, Freeman in fourth and Earnie Martin in fifth on a Kawasaki. There wer e two Pro-Am heats with Jose Aguilar grabbing the holeshot in the first o ne on his HarleyDavidson . Mark Key a lso on a Harley, sli d under Aguilar to tak e over the lead. H onda-mounted Bobby McDowell came all the wa y up from th e fifth spot to tak e over second behind Key, follow ed by Aguilar and Scott Chappell. In th e seco nd heat, H onda rider Adam Sabedra grabbed the hol esh o t with Bob Damron right behind him in second. ' It was soon evide n t, however. th at Sabedra had th e win. Damron held on to second while Randy Fish er sett led for third fol low ed by vet eran rider , George Cooper in fourth. In th e main event, Mark Key was off th e line like a rocket to grab th e lead position. Aguilar and Damron got cro ssed up and th ey both went down in turn two . Both rid er s were o kay an d were ready for a restart. Key aga in gr abbed th e h ol eshot, McDowell was in second with Damron in third, Sab edra in fourth and Fisher in fifth. At th e halfway point, Fish er got by Sab edra co m in g out of turn two for th e fourth spot and Sa bedra held on to fifth until th e finish. In the 500cc Expert main, Randy Fisher got th e pole position on his H arl ey followed by Damron in seco nd, McDowell in third, Sabedra in fourth an d Rot ax -rnounted Steve Ma yfield in th e fifth spot. On th e fourth lap, McDow ell got under Damron then by Fisher to take over first, wh ere he rem ained until th e finish. Damron went arou n d Fisher for second . J on Zahrt moved into second a fter hi s brother went down and stayed there wh il e Mabery pulled away for a decisive win. J eff Reynolds put a new '88 Honda to good use by taking both mOlOS for first 500cc Pro. Mike Dunlap was ahead of Reynolds briefl y a t the start of mot o two bu t Revn olds soon had th e lead for good a'nd Dunlap had to sett le for a pa ir of seconds. Rich Truch in ski topped both motos of th e 125cc Pros to ea rn first money there. Jim Kuntz wa s in com ma n d of th e 250cc Intermedi at es. Kuntz went gate to flag in th e lead of both motos with so m e cha llen ge from T im Telford. T elford usuall y dominat es the class, but co u ld onl y manage a pair of deu ces today. J eff Barbacovi got a bad start in th e first 125cc Intermediate moto and rode hard to get out of fifth off the line. He fought his wa y up to second at th e ch eckered . Barbacovi took control of moto two ea rly on and won handil y, earning the overall. Hares snagged both motos and the overall 500cc Intermediate trophy. Edge AN CHORAG E, AK, AU G . 23 Erik Munson took hi s Suzu ki Mot orcycle & Marin e backed Suzuki to victories in both the Pro and 250cc Expert classes a t th e Alask a Motorcycle Racin g Associa tio n's m o tocross. Regular Kincaid Park ace Kevin Schaub had to take a back seat to Munson in the 250cc Expert class . Munson and Schaub diced in the beginning of the first moto but Sch aub eventually tired. By the end of the moto Kawasaki of Anchorage's Todd Haney passed Schaub to finish second behind Mun son. Moto two belonged en tirely to Munson as he led from sta rt to finish. Again -H a n ey took second over Schau b. Joe Good, cu rrent points leader in th e AMRA Championship Series for th e Pro an d l25 cc Expert classes, rode despite an injured kn ee. The SuzukiArtie Cat Mot orsports rider rode very slowly to maintain his points lead. Munson and Kawasaki of Anchorage sponsored Jim McClain had terrific battles at th e start of both Pro class mOlOS but Munson prevailed to ' take th e win. Andris locks up win at Baylands MX By Mike Vancil FREMONT, CA, AUG. 19 Kell y Andris took th e 250cc Pro class vi ctor y w ith 1-2 m oto finishes tonight at. Ba ylands Raceway Park. After winn ing th e first rnoto, Andris played it safe in the seco nd round to secu re th e overa ll win. In th e first mot o it wa s a three rider duel for th e lead in th e first corner between J eff Pestana, and Andris. Pestana gr abbed secon d pl a ce a nd seemed co nte nt to hold it. His-moves were more to keep Tim McClintock from pa ssing than th ey were in a n effort to ca tch Andri s. Coming into - the chec kers behind McClintock in third was fourth pl acer Craig Porter. P est an a s ' m ount so ured and h e p u lled off th e co urse by lap two for a DNF. In th e seco n d mo to sta rt it wa s J onn Nel son wh o took th e im me di at e lead a nd never rel inquished it. . McClintock took hi s bi g bore YZ to two first pl ace victories in the Open Pro class.
