Stults , smok es two , classes at Idaho ST . By Clay Light STATE LINE, ID, AUG. 27 Expert T im Stults ended the season the same way he started it by winning at Northwest Speedway. Stultz won two classes - th e 600 a nd 750cc Pro classes, th e final event of th e season , .wh ich also doubled as th e northern Idaho Sta te Champ ionship . Throughout th e season, Stults and Yam amoto have bee n the m ost con sistent in th e Professional classes. Yamamoto has the most hea t race wins, but has sour luck in the main events. Yamamoto won two heat races tonight, topping the first 600cc Pro heat over Stults and Expert Ri chi e Hayman and th e second 250cc Pro heat, bea ting Gl en Nickerson. One of th e best classes all season has been the 39 and Up. Nickerson won the heat race aboard h is T riumph , b eatin~ fell ow Triumph jockeys Ga ry Hue and Denny Lopp. In the .ma in event, th e co mpetitio n got a bird's-eye view of Nickerson, as th e former AMA Expert wh eelied from corner to corner en-ro ute to a win over Expert Triber and Lopp . . Joey Kopp has developed into one of four dominant riders in the 250cc Pro class in the panhandle. If an yone ' has exploded into stardom , it would be Kopp, winner of th e first heat race. Kopp sa t alongside of Yamahamounted Yamamoto in the 12-rider 250cc Pro A main. Yamamoto shot into the lead on th e first hlp of th e final with Kopp, Nickerson, Lonnie Kopp and AMA Pro-Am rider Cory Weikel in tow . Kopp soo n charged into the lead with Yamamoto holding second and Weikel in third aft er a spirited ch arge through traffic. Kopp too k th e win. Yamamoto blurred to the front of the pack on his Honda CR480-based short tra cker on th e first lap of th e 600cc Pro main. Yamamoto had a good th ing going up fro n t, leaving Stults, aboard a Honda 600, to fend off H ayman a nd Pro-Am riders Corky Jurkov ich and Pat Stults, also on Hondas. With a lap remaining, Yamamoto's lead loo ked secure. But, with the white flag waving, Yamamoto's Honda picked an untimely moment to quit, putting Stults into the lead for keeps for the win over Hayman, Jurkovich, P. Stults and Ron Rouse. Yamamoto repeatedly threw his mount to th e ground after failing to revive it and watched Stults win the final race of th e season.
