On lap 64 Swims crashed hard as he cam e down th e hill under the bridge going into turn 12. " We were ' quite a few laps down after th e cus h dr iv e bro ke a n d just goi ng fo r mileage points. I was cruis ing, I came down under th e bridge not doing anything different th an befor e. Near the end (lap 110) with Quar terley riding th e last leg for Lockh art and Bra uneck on for Dutchman it loo ked like it cou ld come down to the wire. Closing at th e rate of one to two seconds pe r lap o n Lockh art a nd just 18 seco nds behind on la p 112, Brauneck soon realiz ed he would run out of laps and backed off with Quarterl ey doing the same. Lockhart too k th e win follo wed by Dutchman and Sanibel. Lockhart finished on a S021 1 radi al Michelin mounted to a three and one-half-in ch Perfo rmance Machine fron t wh eel. They used a SOl 124 rear radial on a five a nd o ne-ha lf -i nc h Perform a nce Machine rear wh eel. Dutchman used the same Mich elin tire compound, but were o n T echno-Ma gnesi so wh eels, (five a nd o ne-half rear, three and one-half fron t). Sanibel fin ished on Metzeler bi as pl y slicks (front II 0/ .70· 18's J compound, rear 170/60B18 MBS) also a J com po und tire mo unted to sto ck Suzuki wh eels. . . " We were down on power today, but I won't take anyth ing away from th ose guys (U NO and Kayo), they were ridi ng grea t today, " said Pa u l Smith of Paul Smith Racing. " We made sure we had pl enty of fuel to finis h th e race today; we weren 't taking any chances of ru nn in g out," said Lockhart 's tu ner, Keith Perry. ' Top Gun Racing fin ished fourth overa ll (fo urt h GTO ) , with Never Ready Racing taking six th overall and fifth in GTO. South Florida took seven th overa ll (sixth GTO ), eigh th overa ll and second GTU was Pa ul Sm i th R a cing wit h T eam Florida ninth overall (seventh GTO ) and Echo Racin g rounding ou t th e top 10 (eigh th GT O ). . Du tch man was the big gainer in points moving int o th e GT O points lead and second overall in the series, just 27 poi nts behind first overall and first in GTU Kayo Racing. Asp halt Aviators co nt in ued their slide in the points droppi ng to thi rd, (seco nd in GTU ), H ig h Tech Racing rem ains in fourth overall, (second in GTO), a nd Second City Racing holds fifth overa ll in poi nts (th ird in GTO ). Even with their fifth win of th e series, T eam Lo ckh art must win th e la st three o ut of four rou nds to keep their ' number one p late in 1988. Lockhart averaged 95.044 mph for the win covering th e ~03 kilom eters in three ho urs and 17 mi n utes. In AMA/CCS Regi onal sprint actio n follow ing Sa turday 's En d urance round, Experts Graham J ames and Greg Tysor ca me out th e bi g win ners in th e eig h t-la p final s. James rode to wins in Lightweight Su perbi ke comb ine d and H eavyweight Supersport com bi ned and took second in H eavyweight Superbike. T ysor ro de hi s Continental Tires H onda CB600 Hurri cane to wins in Formula Two Expert and Middleweight Supersport com bi ned alo ng wi th seconds in H eavyweight Su persport combined and Middl eweigh t Superb ike. Other top sprin t racers for th e weekend were Donald J acks o n his Mi tch Ma rqu i/Cycl e R ider sspo nsored H onda H ur ricane beat in g Tysor in the Middl eweight Superbike race.
