McGrath shot into the lead early in the second moto and never looked ba ck as he roosted to the win and th e overall money. Paladino moved into seco nd and made every effort to ca tch th e leader, but second was as far as he got. Inglebrigh t finished third, good for second overall, while th ird ov erall went to P aladino. Pea rce and Lynch were peg-to-peg all evening. Just as the checkered flag came out in the main event. Pearce (in first) went down and Lvnch (inches behind ) also crashed. 'T he crash sent Pearce's fender flying and Lynch somersaulting over the bars. ince the get-off was at the wire. it wasn't quite clear who actually won th e race . Officials' decided Pearce took first and Lynch second. . Despite Lynch taking th e holeshot in the heat, Pearce sq ueezed by using the outside lin e to gain th e lead, Doren Potter got under Sean Swea ney for third. Donnie H arrell mad e his way th rough th e pack to finish fourth. Pearce held off L ynch for the heat win. Lynch and Potter took second and third. The main event start saw Mi ke Jones, L ynch and Harrell pull a three-way holesh or , bu t L yn ch pulled into the lead on the ba ck straigh t. Pearce plowed th rough to come in behind Lyn ch from fourth posit ion. Lynch and Pearce battled fo r th e lead until th ey crashed a t the wire , fini shing first a nd seco nd. Harrell took third , gett ing arou nd Potter who settled for fourth. Both Pearce and Lynch were unhurt. The 500cc Amateur cla ss was split into two heats du e to the number o f bikes entered: J eff H artman too k th e holeshot in heat on closely fol-e, lowed by Don Glendening, T im Woodard, and Rick Bride. Gl endening used an outside slide to ga in th e lead. Woodard followed suit to claim second. Hartman and Bride finished third and fourth. Scott Crea ger a nd Ch ad Ellis battled for the win ' in heat two. Creager holeshot the start to lead for three laps while Ellis and Ap p lewhi te fought for second. Ell is took second and then reeled in Creag er for the lead and the heat two V ICtory. Creager too k th e fla g in seco nd over Kent Ca nady, who blew by Ap pl ewh ite for th ird. Crea ger p ulled away from a bunched start to wrap up th e 500cc Amateur cla ss lead and victory in th e main event. H artman , Ca nady, Tim Woodard a nd Gl en denin g all ba ttled for top positions. Woodard took th e inside li ne for seco nd. Ell is and Gl endening ba ttl ed bac k and fort h for third..Ell is began ap p lying pressu re to Woodard using an ou tside line, but it was 10 no ava il. Woodard rode tough for seco nd, Ellis fin ished th ird a nd Gl endening took fou rt h. Lynch again did som e reckoni ng with Pearce in th e 500cc Pro class. In th e heat , Lynch, as usua l, was fir st into th e corner with a th ree-wide pa ck in pursu it behind him (Harrell . Kirb y Shropshire and Mik e Hal e). Pearce came fro m ins ide the pack 10 the ou tside line to take over the lead. Lynch and ' hropshire poured it on for second. Shropshire pulled by Lynch at the white fla g for seco nd : Lvnch cl a imed th ird. Hal e took fou rth and Jim He stily fifth . Lynch dominated the main event fro m the green to the checkers to score the 500cc Pro main event win. SEAFORD, DE , J ULY 24 Ro y Collings had a perfect even in g by winning both heat and features in th e 500cc and OpenPro classes. Collings put his First State Cyclesl Mark Hage Harley-Davidson in front of the 500cc feature with Mark Miller and Dan Diedrickson in tow. Collings began to pull away about lap five, as Miller dropped off the pace. Diedrickson closed on Miller on lap seven , but couldn't get by as the checkered flag fell. The 250cc class saw Jeff Sal evan overco me a poor start to capture the feature even t aboard his Honda. Heat winner Gene Kaczka got the holeshot and led until lap six when Salevan slipped under Kaczka in tum one. In Open Pro action, it was Miller who led into the first tum, but it was a sho rt -lived lead. Collings went by on th e next go- around, while SCOtt Haper was circulating in third, with Al Sm ith in fourt h. Ronnie Da il kept his unbeaten streak alive with another win in the Sr. class final. Dail pushed to the fro nt and kept it th ere until lap six wh en the race was stop pe d when Tom Kisielnicki parted company while trying to pass ano ther ri der in tum one, and the race was called complete. Battillo blasts Sterlington HS By J eff A lbrig ht STERLINGTON, LA, JULY 19 Raymond Battillo stole the holeshot and never looked back, as he blasted his KX250 to a victory in the 30-39 Year-Old class at the Monroe Dirt Riders H ar e Scram ble in Sterlington. Battillo's twin brother Ronnie, who picked up third place on his KDX200 . in the 200cc B cla ss, said after the race, " When Raymond is on, he's on. H e started two rows behind me, caught and passed me , and then pulled over to adjust his clutch lever, like he wasn't even in a hurry." . Wade Cleveland seem ed unbeatable in th e Open Beginner class on ' his CR250, but had to retire early after co mi n g in co nta ct with a stump, breaking his rear brake lever off in the process. Cleveland was ridin!\, with a broken collarbo ne, sus tam ed in a practice cra sh earlier in the su m mer. Brad Minninger gasse d his KDX200 to a win in the highly com pe titive 200cc Beginner class. Minninger, who was co m pe ti ng in his second ever race, will be moving to the amateu r ra nks . The AA Expert class saw H onda CR500-moun ted Rodger Bail ey and KTM350 pilot J eff Plunkett put on a show, as Plunkett ho u nded Bailey for the lead.
