Delacy scores
at Napa Speedway
By R.C. Jones
NAPA, CA, JULY 18
Mike Delacy and Joe Leduc captured
the Scratch and Handicap main
event victories, respectively, at Napa
Speedway's Saturday night program.
It was minibike night, and the
Richmond Motorcycle Club provided some minibike entertainment
during intermission. In the minibike
race Dave Faria Jr., was able to dial
the little bikes in as he won both heat
races easily.
In the Handicap main southern
California rider Doug Nicol started
on the 30 next to Harlan Bast Jr,.
and Roben "The Kid" Curry. Bast
was still riding with a sore shoulder
from last week. Leduc, riding Mike
Kain's bike all night, gated just
behind Vance Felicio on the 20.
Felicio charged in front from the
start and the eight-lap shuffle began.
The riders swapped positons manv
times and Felicio kept in front.
Felicio and Bast were getting too
much tire spin out of the corners,
causing both riders some problems.
Felicio kept getting wider and
wider, finally brushing the wall on
lap six in front of the stan/finish.
Felicio somehow kept control, but
fell off the pace. Leduc took advantage and moved into first with Nicol.
on his heels. Bast also ended up too
wide and instead of pressing Nicol,
he had to deal with Curry coming
from behind. Nicol could not get
around Leduc and had to settle for
second. Leduc made it to the
winner's circle for the first time this
year with Nicol and Bast rounding
out the top three.
The other southern California
rider Kevin Krugh, was more successful in Scratch racing than the Handicaps. Krugh won his heat over his
friend Rocky Robinson and placed
second to Dave Faria Jr., in the semi.
Mike Delacy, who hasn't been in the
victory column this year, also won
his heat and semi.
At the start of. the Scratch final
Robinson gated first out of spot
number four. Faria laid waste to his
pole position with a bad start, and
Delacy from gate three was right
behind Robinson. Delacy used his
inside position on Robinson to get
even through the turn and pull ahead
when Robinson could not hook up.
Krugh was watching from behind
and waited a lap to let Robinson get
too far outside to slip past and into
second. By then Delacy was gone and
r~dy for the trophy from his first
