Spangler. Boggia built up a five
second lead, while Dave Hand and
Spangler began picking off the riders
ahead of them. Boggia led through
four and a half laps when the Suzukimounted rider was succumbed by a
flat tire, giving the lead to David
Hand with Spangler trailing close
behind. The two front runners ran
a tire-to-tire race to the finish with
Spangler sandwiched between the
two Hands, Dave in front and Carl
~inishing third.
Jim Deutsch rode bis 250cc Honda
to the overall win in the B class
chaulking up 2-1 moto finishes.
Kei th Perry led the field of riders
through the first turn to start the first
moto followed by Mike Cain,
Deutsch and Bill Pizzino. The
Kawasaki-mounted Perry held his
lead for the entire moto, while
Deutsch and Pizzino dispensed of
Cain and battled for second. Perry
held an 11 second lead to begin the
final lap, while Deutsch rode without error, knowing, Pizzino was on
his tail waiting for the opportunity
to pass. Cain and John Diezic filed
through the checkered flag behind
Pizzino.
Deutsch took the lead to start the
second moto followed by Perry, Cain
and Pizzino. Deutsch surrendered his
lead to Perry for a half lap before
taking control of the front spot where
he remained for the rest of the moto.
Pizzino motored pa-st Cain to begin
the third lap and routed past Perry
during the final half lap. Cain
finished fourth' followed by Rick
Boepple in fifth.

Southgate storms

PARIS, TN, JUNE 20
Charles R. Southgate took the Open
class honQrs Saturday night in short
track racing at Paris. A wide groove,
put down in practice, allowed for
good racin,g in the WKCRA event.
Southgate grabbed the lead off the
start in the Open final and everyone
else had to fight for second as he ran
on a rail en route to the win. A good
diee shaped up for second with
Denne Williams topping Charles K.
Southgate, Eddie Reagor and David
Flowers for the runner-up spot.
Williams went to the front of the
250cc main and'used a tight .inside
line to card the win. The race for
·seeo.nd was a challenge just to stay
on two wheels as a lot of shoving
and position swapping went on. At
the checkers the order read Flowers,
David Menser, Jeff Middlebrooks,
Jim Briedenbach and Charles
Fennell.
Eddie Reagor holeshot the 125cc
final and cruised in for the win. Joel
Barrow and David Menser were in
a heated battle until Menser, trying
to use Barrow as a braking point,
went down. Barrow rode to second
'with T.). Burnette topping Chuck
Allen for third.
Monte Starks took a f1ag-to-f1ag
win in the 200cc class. Barrow, Mark
Walker, Jimmy Allen and Chris
Martin followed him acros the line.
Nick Hayden led the Automatic
class final until Jon Camp took over _
at the halfway' point. Camp went on
to win beating Jenny Hayden, Beau
Braswell, and Jason Goodwin when
. Nick Hayden went down.
Aaron Ladd put his Performance
Cycle Honda in front of the 65cc final
and was never headed. Nick Hayden
came through the field to finish
second with Chris Boone filling out'
the winner's circle. Jarrod Barrow,
Camp, Tommy Hayden and Joshua
KnOll rounded out the field.

COLUMBIA, SC, JUNE 20-21
Mike Brown and Todd Neal earned
double Regional Championship
titles via their perfect scores in the
Stock and Modified divisions of the
. 85cc (14-15) and I25cc (12- 15) classes,
respectively, in ·the AMA Southeastern Regional Championship/Qualifier at Hell Hole Creek MX. Ezra
LusK also claimed two titles, winning the 65 and 85cc divisions in the
7-Il age gJ'OUp.
The top six finishers in each of
the Youth, Women and Senior
divisions earned a guaranteed starting position at the AMA Amateur
Nationals to he held in mid-August
at Loretta Lynn's Dude Ranch in
Termessee.
A three-moto prow.am was run
with the best two fimshes determining a rider's score. All classes ran 20minute motos. The 'course received
praise from numerous riders for its
lack of double-jumps and for its
challenging rough surface.
Barr/Gear-backed Brown dominated 85cc (14-15) action b!J twas
challenged by Derek Youngblood in
the second Stock moto. Youngblood
closed on Brown but was set back
in a spill and had to settle for an
eventual third overall in a tied score
behind his brother Daryl Youngblood.
Freewheeling Honda's Neal made
it look easy as he ou tdi.stanced the
pack en route to perfect scores in
125cc (12-15) Stock and Modified
action. Florida's Chris Marlin earned
runner-up honors in Stock action
while Trey Phillips took the slot in
Modified racing over Marlin.
Jake McClure emerged victor·ious
in fierce I25cc C action after posting
1-1-1 finishes. Tommy Bilz earned
runner-up honor~ over Kawasaki of
Milton, Florida's Russell Grater who
had claimed the opening moto win.
Florida's Brian Broussard fought
his way through the pack in the final
Todd Neal (718) powered to the victory in the 125cc 12-15 ranks at
Hell Hole Creek's Regional Championship MX.
two 250ec/Open C motos and won
both times to take the title over Shane
Kennedy and Earnest Harbin.
With only about a dozen entrants
each, the Women's and Senior (40+)
classes were run together in.
staggered-stan motos. The Women
started 15 seconds behind the Seniors
but Women's Champion Vicki Reynolds passed the entire Senior field
each time out en route to her winning 2-2-1 score. At 35, Vicki was the
oldest in her class. The second oldest
in the class was .Beth Rewis, at 27,
and she took second overall with a
1-3-2 score over 17 year-old Gina
Perry, who finished 3-1-3_
Mudd Enterprises' Paul Lesson
survived close battles with Marc
Minor and Charlie Owens to finish
1-1-4, netting the Senior (40+) title
over Minor and Owens.
Gear/Yokahama's Robby Neeley
devastated the competition in Senior
(30+) action, lapping most of the
field in all three motos. Steve Lewis
edged Logan Atkins in a good battle
for runner-up honors.
