Veugeler romps at Ohio Regional MX By Susan Willian SUGAR GROVE, OH, JUNE 27-28 The Central Ohio Competition Riders (COCR) hosted the Honda/ AMA Amateur Regional Qualifier as Team Green/TuflScott USA-backed jim Veugeler posted perfect fourfor-four moto wins to take overall .victories in the 125 and 250cc ProAm. . In the first moto of the 125cc ProAm race, Veugeler came from a third place position on the start to take' the lead on lap three. Veugeler was hounded by Yamaha/Gear/Ourysponsored Robert .M,otsinger and Yamaha-mounted MIke LaRocco. LaRocco managed to sneak by Motsinger taking a second at the checkered with Motsinger remaining third. Moto two found Veugeler the early leader as he was chased by Billy Maxton and Motsinger. Motsinger cruised by Maxton taking over second as he closed in on Veugeler. Veugeler was kept on his toes by Motsinger's aggressive moves, but held on to first again at the finish tine, while Motsinger grabbed second. With only two out of three motos counting for the overall, Veugeler opted not to race in moto three leaving the front runner's seat up for grabs. Motsinger took advantage of the situation as he motored around turn one ahead of the pack, then wen t on to stretch his 'lead for the moto win and second overall. Rusty Ott, in second, was pursued by Derrick Roe who managed to move by early in the moto. Roe finished third overall with a 3-2 score. Veuge1er had to work harder to capture his wins in the 25Occ-Open Pro-Am as he went down in the' first moto and dropped back several positions. Veugeler managed to weave his way through the pack and back into first. In the second moto, Veuge1er grabbed the h9leshot, but Ott took charge as he slipped by on the inside to take the lead followed by DGYbacked Mike Roth and Veuge1er. Veuge1er moved by Roth·on the first lap taking over second and chasing Ott. By lap two, Veugeler went by Ott and managed to stretch out a huge lead at the checkered flag. Again Veugeler opted not to compete in moto three, retiring for the day with a 1-1. Roth led from start to finish on his Yamaha. Breck Powers and Chris Brasille rode sideby-side with Brasille gassing it on lap three and taking over second. Brasille remained in that position at the checkered as Powers dropped to sixth. Yamaha/KK/Malcolm Smithsponsored Tim Shephard snagged the overall in the Plus 25. class as he took a first in moto one. The second moto found Billy Bowman taking the win with Shephard second. Brinkwart CAYUTA, NY, JUNE 28 Fifty-one riders came to Cayuta, to ride the event put on by Matt Hughson. Foul weather shut down some sections and turned the loop , into a ·muddy quagmire. Most surviving sections contained rock ledges which were not affected by the ram and did not change much during the event. Mike Komer had his Montesa dialed in, taking Premier with 69 points. Section· four had a nasty offcamber downhill turn which had most riders sliding out of bounds. Komer seemed to float through without effort dropping only two points here all day. Afterwar~s, M~ke commented, "It was a fun trials With a good variety of sections. Everyone used different riding techniques to get through the sections." Advanced rider Mike Davis took £ir'St place with 129 points. An excellent ride for Davis after a long layoff.
