Kenny Kizzar (157) and Darryl Ahonen (128) battled in the 250cc A class at Gatorback MX. Kizzar scored the overall win. Gosnell conquers SteppMIIHS the inside gates. When the green came on, Ingels was able to get a foot lead on the othe~s and quickly picked the best line through turns one and two. Faria battled with Martin for the first two laps but rode the outside too much, letting Martin get the traction, and after two laps of wheelto-wheel racing fell off the pace. Bast, not quite up LO speed all night, followed Faria in for the fourth spot. Creig Reed. 81aclnrel blasts to Mobile RR win By Neal Thomas MOBILE, AL, JUNE 27 Suzuki of Mobile-backed Bubba Blackwell took home the cash in the Gulf Coast Yamaha-sponsored AllComers Road Race, held at Mobile International Speedway. Blackwell faced a diverse group of motorcycles, from Tim Lorge's Harley-Davidson/Rotax 500 to third-place finisher Tim Myer's Yamaha FZRIOOO, but it was Van Rayburn's GSXR750 which blasted to an early lead in the 15-lap race around the half-mile banked oval. Aggressive allacks by_ Lorge and GSXR-mounted Blackwell failed to unseat leader Rayborn until the last lap. Rayborn radicalJy changed his line on the final go-around after sliding in some oil, and gOt stuck behind a lapped rider just long enough [or BlackwellLO get by. Rayborn finished behind Blackwell, with Myers cruising in [or an easy third. Bobby Myers topped a fourth place battle between himself and [ellow Yamaha 500 pilots Mik peh and Steve Lorge; Speh took firth, Lorge finished sixth. Results ALL-COMERS: 1. Bubba Blackwell (suz); 2. Kizzar Bradshaw blast Gatorback MX By Ben Sanders 52 GAINESVILLE, FL, JUNE 27-28 Yamaha riders Kenny Kizzar and Damon Bradshaw and Honda rider Marcus Pedrero all took home double class wins at the AMA Southeastern Regional Amateur Champion- ships at Gatorback Cycle Park. Kizzar won two of the three motos in both the 125cc and 250cc A classes. In the first 125cc moLO Florida rider Jay Mann took a runaway win in the first moto, but was unable to catch Kizzar in the later motos. Team Green/S and D Racing/ SCOll USA/PJ 1/Answer Products/ Bell/Dunlop-sponsored Mann said, "The first moto was great. It was muddy and I won by 26 seconds. I crashed in the first comer in the second moto, and I just got tired. This was the first time I have run 30 minute motos. I don't know why I didn't close on Kizzar in the last mOlo." In the 250cc A class Kizzar won the first moto easily over Keith Fox with Robbie Taylor a close third. Mann hooked in with another rider and was left sitting in the first turn with a broken throttle. Fox took a wire-to-wire win in the second moto as Kizzar DNF with a broken chain. Darryl Ahonen followed in second and Taylor ballied to hold off Mark Spriggle for third before losing his chain at the bOllom o[ GaLOrback's infamous finish line uphill. Taylor said, "I thou~ht I had it. I thought I could push It up the hill and past the finish line, but that chain broke and I only made it about two [eet." Mann took fourth riding on a nat rear tire for the moLO as Taylor watched the field go by, 20 feet below the finish. Moto three saw Kizzar grab the holeshot and stretch his lead over the field en route to an easy vicLOry. Taylor worked his way up to a-strong second place finish, with Spriggle and Toby Harris in third and fourth. Mann DNF with a broken rear hub_ Yamaha-support rider Kizzar said, "It was a great weekend. No problems other than that chain breaking. The weather doesn't bother me. Whether it's soft, muddy or dry, it doesn't maller, you just have LO adjust to what you are riding." Bradshaw claimed victory by dominating the first two moLOS of both the 125cc B Stock and 250cc B tock' . classe . Mike Gool by was able LO put together a second and a third place finish LO secure second overalJ in the 125cc B Stock division. Bobby SLOvall followed up his [ifth in moLO two with a final moto·win to nail down third. In the 250cc B Stock cia s Keith English won the third moLO nailing down second overall behind Brad· shaw, and Tony Bullard secured third with second and third place finishes in the first two motos. Stovall overcame a fir t moLO DNF to claim fourth overall. By Loren & Barbara Williams TRAVELERS REST, SC, JUNE 28 Donnie Gosnell was the hands-down overall winner of this installment of hare scrambles at Stepp Mill at Riverside Speedway, ignoring the heat to finish five minutes before anyone else on the course. Chris Bowles was able to give Gosnell a fight, as he was hard on Gosnell's heels at the start, but he smashed his header pipe on a stump. Kenneth Bowers was hot on Gosnell's trail for much of the race, until a run-in with the creek slowed him down. Bowers ended up in the front of all the other 25Occ10pen Amateur riders. holding oU Michael Lee's Honda. Roger Capps was able LO muscle his Husky around the difficult course for third place. Kip Petrykowski and Randy Jones were neck-and-neck for most of the race in the 200 Amateur class. Though Jones had the motor and the start advantage, but Petrykowski used smart riding to pass and hold of( Jones. for the win. In the Senior class, Tony Coggins guided his Yamaha YZ through the woods LO repeat his win of two weeks earlier. Larson, Tyler win at Washougal MX By Clay light WASHOUGAL, WA, JU E 26-27 Wa hingLOn residents Mike Larson, SCOll Tyler and Larry Wad carded wins at the second and third rounds of the CMC Pac-West Series, at Washougal. Larson was Saturday's big winner, taking impressive overall wins in two classes. The Bremerton speedster took top money in the 250cc and Open Pro c1as e . Tyler took the first set of moLOS in the 250cc and Open Pro classes Saturday, but Larson came back to convincingly take the second moLOS by storm to log the overall win. In the 250cc Pro class, Canada's Darren Poul on finished third overall after posting 6-3 finishes. Rounding out the LOp five were Steve Friesen and Spokane's Rick Simmett. Ward went 2-1 to win the 125cc Pro class for LOp ca h payoff. First moLO winner Friesen was relegated LO ~econd overall with 1-2 postings, while Oregon's Gray on Hart took third wi th consistent 3-3 performances. Ward's moLO two win gave him the overall in the class for the second race in a row at Washougal. Simmet went 6-4 for fourth and Bryan BirkesLOI fifth with 5-6 rides. With an overflow of 125cc Juniors on hand, the 66 riders were split into two divisions. Each class made for sensational racing and an exciting turn one. Mall Worbes won Division One honor over Canadian Bill Lawrence and Tony Sandstrom. The second division fell to Mike West. West used 3-2 rides for the overall, beating Bret Norris and first moLO winner Bill Radcliff. . Sunday's rider total was 308, which made for a two-day total of 502. Larson launched his Kawasaki into lead in both Open Pro contests for a I-I sweep of the class both days. Second went LO Tyler (2-2) with AI Carstensen (3-3) taking third pay. Ryan Huffman made up for a dismal performance on Saturday by dominating both 80cc Intermediate moLOS. But his wins didn't come without a ballle. Saturday's winner Jason McCormick and Danny Ulven both gave Huffman some down-anddirty competition. Huffman held ~ in the later stages [or his only overan win of the weekend. Tyler got revenge in the 250cc Pr~ class, beating Larson in a moto two shootout. It would be the only (werall win that the Olympia.. Washington, rider would get. Larsot;l was relegated LO second overall with his 1-2 rides while Frieson impressed the spectators with his consisteru riding all weekend. His 3-3 performances were good for third in the overalls.
