Robert Naughton took the victory in the 125cc Expert class at Canyon Raceway's MX. nelly took the overall win by virtue of his 3-1 tally, beating second overall Kyle Killebrew. Killebrew won the first moto, but took third in the second moto. Yamaha-mounted Paul Bowman grabbed the moto one holeshot and led Killebrew, Mark Branson, Connelly and Steve Akers for three laps. Killebrew motored past Bowman to take over first while Connelly tried to pass Branson and went down. Connelly was up quickly and went after Branson, finally passing on lap seven of the eight-lap moto. Up front, Killebrew LOok the checkered'flag five seconds ahead of Bowman, with Connelly trying a last tum pass on Bowman that came up short. Moto two saw Killebrew pull the holeshot ahead of Connelly, Bowman, Branson and Akers. By lap two, Connelly was attacking the newly revised Canyon track with a vengeance as the leaders pulled away from Bowman. Looking ·like two cats with their tails tied together, Killebrew and Connelly diced until lap six when Connelly passed his Hondamounted rival at the bottom section of the track. Bowman also got by Killebrew. With only two laps left Killebrew was unable LO close in on the leaders. The checkered flag saw Connelly cross first, then Bowman and Killebrew. The I25cc Beginners brought their own fireworks to Canyon in the form of Scott Moore and Ban Black. Moore led moLO one ahead of Jedd Denney, David Punnebecker and John Caverty. Black got off LO a bad start and was mired back in seventh. Moore continued to lead in spite of pressure from Punnebecker. By lap four of the five lap moto, Black had worked his way into third, getting around Punnebecker on the last lap. Moore took first at the finish line with Black, Punnebecker and Dermey finishing in that order. Moore pulled another holeshot in moLO two, but this time Black was glued to his rear fender. The leaders diced heavily until lap three when Black motored past Moore in a fast left hand sweeper. On the next lap, Moore bailed off ajump, but quickly remounted. Black had the moto in the bag and raced home LO the finish line. Moore took second with Denney getting third. Results JR: 1. Dave Nichols (Kaw); 2. Jeremy Giroir 3. Jason Matthews (Kaw). MINI BEG: 1.
