ORTONVILLE, IN, MAY 10
ntense competition was the order of
e day when former mini- and 125cc
p, Mark Melton, won both 125
motos at Hortonville MX.
Melton's Yamaha took the moto
fJe holeshot, while Cliff Walker of
lbio, Indiana's Connie Feist, and
wasaki riders De.rrick Roe and
bel Marshall followed. Walker, just
ack from an injury, dropped off the
ce and gave Feist second, while
arshall and Roe battled for third.
shall tailed Roe for two laps
efore Roe fell in the whoops during
p six. Marshall held onto the third
r*>t and Feist finished a comfortable
cond behind Melton.
·JWalker shot his Honda into the
lead at the beginning of moto two,
_ut Melton, Roe and Feist moved
ahead on lap two. With Feist not far
b,ehind, Roe challenged Melton.
Melton's typically cool riding kept
the lead just out of Roe's reach. In
desperate attempt at the win, Roe
shot past Melton on the downhill
before the finish line. Melton rockted out of the hairpin, into the
sw~per; and zig-zagged around Roe
fQT the spectacular take-back. Roe
finished even with Melton's back
tire; Melton won the overall. Feist
got second with 2-3 moto finishes,
Roe's 4-2 motos put him third, and
Marshall took fourth.
Action was mixed in the 250 A
ass. It was Walker with the holehot in moto one, with Dan
mbarger, Feist and Marshall right
hind. Feist quickly took the lead,
nd Marshall moved past Umbarger
o take on Walker for second. MarhaH tripled smoothly through the
hoops, then passed Walker while
aIling off the doubles. By the
alfway point, Marshall was reeling
n'Feist. Feist and Marshall were nipnd-tuck for three laps until the
ite flag lap, when Marshall flew
the leader in the whoops for the
Wfn.

second, followed by Ohio's Mark
freed and Chris Knox. Marshall
. nt down in the whoops and picked
his Kawasaki up in last place. After
. uch swapping on lap one, Knox's
Suzuki took the lead. Safreed and
Feist tangled in the turn before the
S(:oring tower and caused a jam-up.
Umbarger slipped into third, and
Feist got going in fourth. Knox held
a commanding lead when Feist
pushed his Yamaha past Umbarger
to chase down Walker halfway
through the moto. Back in the pack,
Marshall was putting on a show of
his own, taking a rider per lap and
passing two riders at once in the
whoops. Walker held off Feist for
two laps, but Feist charged into
second in lap six. Moto one winner
Marshall finished fourth. Feist's 22'earned him the overall win, Knox's
4-1 motos gave him second, Marshall
got third and Walker was fourth

lCizzar dominates at
Muddy Creek MX
By Danny C. lusti
BLOUNTVILLE, TN, APR. 26
Sunny weather and spring breezes
greeted riders from 13 states as they
competed in Muddy Creek Moto-X
Raceway's AMA-sanctioned Eastern
Continental Championship racing.
It was Kenny Kizzar dominating the
action as he raced his Yamaha to
overall viclories in both the 125 and
250cc Pro classes.
In the first 125cc moto, Kizzar
followed eventual second place
finisher Aaron Bollinger as he
grabbed the holeshot and led unlil
the seventh of eight laps. At that
point, Kizzar took the lead and held
on for the victory. The second moto
saw eventual overall tl:iird place
finisher Sean Dukes take the hole·shot with Tommy' Rios, who finished third in the first moto, holding
second and Kizzar following in third.
Dukes and Rios held their positions
while Kizzar fell to fourth as the
second moto ended. Kizzar held on
to the overall lead while Rios finished second.
While Kizzar did not exactly
domirtate the 125cc Pros, he more
than dominated the 250cc class as he
led every lap of both motos to take
the overall. Kevin Foley captured
second overall as· he moved from a
first-lap sixth position to third place
finish in the first moto. The second
moto saw Kizzar once again leading,
while Foley followed in eighth
position. But Foley rode his Honda
to another third place finish and an
impressive overall second. Third
place overall finisher Gerald Wood,
finished fifth in the first moto while
following Kizzar throughout the
second moto.
In the 125cc B class, Kevin Walker
recovered from the fifth place he
started, to win the first moto. Walker
'went on to grab the holeshol and the
victory in the second moto, thus
ensuring .him of overaH first place
honors. Brian Ju'stie finished fourth
in the first moto, but .came back to
claim second in both the second
moto and overall. Chuck Blackmon
rode his Cagiva lO third and fourth
place finishes to finish third overall.
Mike Brown made an impressive
showing at Muddy Creek as he
captured overall victories in the
125cc C and Senior Mini divisions.
In winning the I 25cc C class; Brown
led every lap in both motos. Second
overall went to Eric Powell as he
.caplured double fourth place finishes. A lhird place finish coupled
with a fifth place finish provided
_
Sleve Ratcliff wilh third overall.
