elton tops obby Hills MX vB. J. Pontius ORTONVILLE, IN, MAY 10 ntense competition was the order of e day when former mini- and 125cc p, Mark Melton, won both 125 motos at Hortonville MX. Melton's Yamaha took the moto fJe holeshot, while Cliff Walker of lbio, Indiana's Connie Feist, and wasaki riders De.rrick Roe and bel Marshall followed. Marshall held onto the third r*>t and Feist finished a comfortable cond behind Melton. ·JWalker shot his Honda into the lead at the beginning of moto two, _ut Melton, Roe and Feist moved ahead on lap two. With Feist not far b,ehind, Roe challenged Melton. Melton's typically cool riding kept the lead just out of Roe's reach. In desperate attempt at the win, Roe shot past Melton on the downhill before the finish line. Melton rockted out of the hairpin, into the sw~per; and zig-zagged around Roe fQT the spectacular take-back. Roe finished even with Melton's back tire; Melton won the overall. Feist got second with 2-3 moto finishes, Roe's 4-2 motos put him third, and Marshall took fourth. Action was mixed in the 250 A ass. It was Walker with the holehot in moto one, with Dan mbarger, Feist and Marshall right hind. Feist quickly took the lead, nd Marshall moved past Umbarger o take on Walker for second. MarhaH tripled smoothly through the hoops, then passed Walker while aIling off the doubles. By the alfway point, Marshall was reeling n'Feist. Feist and Marshall were nipnd-tuck for three laps until the ite flag lap, when Marshall flew the leader in the whoops for the Wfn. i" , .. Walker led the pack agam 10 moto t'l'{o. Donald Baker on a Honda was second, followed by Ohio's Mark freed and Chris Knox. Marshall . nt down in the whoops and picked his Kawasaki up in last place. After . uch swapping on lap one, Knox's Suzuki took the lead. Safreed and Feist tangled in the turn before the S(:oring tower and caused a jam-up. Umbarger slipped into third, and Feist got going in fourth. Knox held a commanding lead when Feist pushed his Yamaha past Umbarger to chase down Walker halfway through the moto. Back in the pack, Marshall was putting on a show of his own, taking a rider per lap and passing two riders at once in the whoops. Walker held off Feist for two laps, but Feist charged into second in lap six. Moto one winner Marshall finished fourth. Jact< Schutt (Hon). lCizzar dominates at Muddy Creek MX By Danny C. lusti BLOUNTVILLE, TN, APR. 26 Sunny weather and spring breezes greeted riders from 13 states as they competed in Muddy Creek Moto-X Raceway's AMA-sanctioned Eastern Continental Championship racing. It was Kenny Kizzar dominating the action as he raced his Yamaha to overall viclories in both the 125 and 250cc Pro classes. In the first 125cc moto, Kizzar followed eventual second place finisher Aaron Bollinger as he grabbed the holeshot and led unlil the seventh of eight laps. At that point, Kizzar took the lead and held on for the victory. The second moto saw eventual overall tl:iird place finisher Sean Dukes take the hole·shot with Tommy' Rios, who finished third in the first moto, holding second and Kizzar following in third. Dukes and Rios held their positions while Kizzar fell to fourth as the second moto ended. Kizzar held on to the overall lead while Rios finished second. While Kizzar did not exactly domirtate the 125cc Pros, he more than dominated the 250cc class as he led every lap of both motos to take the overall. Kevin Foley captured second overall as· he moved from a first-lap sixth position to third place finish in the first moto. The second moto saw Kizzar once again leading, while Foley followed in eighth position. But Foley rode his Honda to another third place finish and an impressive overall second. Third place overall finisher Gerald Wood, finished fifth in the first moto while following Kizzar throughout the second moto. In the 125cc B class, Kevin Walker recovered from the fifth place he started, to win the first moto. Walker 'went on to grab the holeshol and the victory in the second moto, thus ensuring .him of overaH first place honors. Brian Ju'stie finished fourth in the first moto, but .came back to claim second in both the second moto and overall. Chuck Blackmon rode his Cagiva lO third and fourth place finishes to finish third overall. Mike Brown made an impressive showing at Muddy Creek as he captured overall victories in the 125cc C and Senior Mini divisions. In winning the I 25cc C class; Brown led every lap in both motos. Second overall went to Eric Powell as he .caplured double fourth place finishes. A lhird place finish coupled with a fifth place finish provided _ Sleve Ratcliff wilh third overall.
