Jones AUB URN , CA , MAY 8 John Cook was o n th e G old Co untry Speedway's program Fri day night an d , h e co m me nced to g ive rid in g lessons in th e Scrat ch races. Never once head ed af ter th e start, Cook won hi s ' th ree Scr atch races wit h his showmanship style. In th e main, th e race was rea lly goin g on for seco nd, as Eddie Ingels, Bart Bast a n d Dave Faria battled for seco nd with Ingels hol di n g off th e other two . Si n ce four riders from eac h Handicap semi-final wo u ld qualify for the main , all three' 50 yard h andicappers made the main. Only Cook was able to pull off a wi n in th e sixlap semi-final, starting from th e 50. After two riders went down on th e fir st lap o f 'th e Handicap main , In gel s was off with his seco nd gr eat start from th e 50, leaving Bas t and Cook fightin g for th e inside position. With Cook's front wh eel over th e rail h e edged ahead o f Bast to go after Ingles. Meanwhile, Mik e Parsons, sta rt ing from th e 30, worked past three ride rs ahead of him and was in first place within a co u p le of laps. It wa s follow th e leader for a few la ps until Cook cou ld ge t past In gel s, th en the chase was o n. Cook, En gl es and Bast worked through traffic go in g after Parsons. But with Parso n s running so smooth , Cook could not ge t th at extra in ch needed for th e photo finish . Munson topped both Open Pro motos, as well as th e first 250cc P ro contest on his Sunnywide H o n da/ HRP/ Maxi ma-backed Hondas. Seco nd to Munson in th e Open Pro race was Gr ayson Hart, who ca me o ut on top of the 125cc P ro ac tio n. The record 950 h ea t didn ' t do much to slow do wn Munson or Don ' Bisceg lia in th e 250cc P ro ra n ks. T he du o dueled for top cash in moto one, which saw Munson wi th the edge. . Munson developed troubl es in m ot o two, a n d DNF, which put Biscegl ia and h is H onda into the wi n ne r's circle.
