Fifth was th e Southern Enterprises Racing Suzuki GSXRlIOO. Front Row continued to lead seco nd pl ace Paul Smith Ra cing by a full lap. ' Miam i-Vice's da y ended with a cras h by Tedler in turn six, elim inating th e team from th e ra ce. Race leaders Kayo Racing and Lockh art were a full two laps up on th ird pl ace T eam Sanibel. The GTU ac tio n began to change aga in with Paul Sm i th Ra cing getting th eir lap back and passing Front Row Racing for the GTU lead . On lap 72 it was Shorts and th e Lockhart GSXR back in front with Ka yo cl ose behind. High T ech Racin g go t aro und T eam Sanibel to take over third. Sou thern Enterprises held fifth . On lap 80, Kayo went back in front and began to build a lead of over 30 seconds on a Lockhart pit sto p . Kayo pitted for their final fuel stop o n lap 95, enjoying a lead of just over 30 seconds wh en th ey pitted o n ly to have it dwindle to plus three seconds when ihey reent ered th e race. Rentzel 's rea r Yok oham a R600 180/ 680 RI 8 radial slic k was nearing the cord as he left the pits a nd Shorts was closi ng. Shrots was on the move makin g up a half to o ne second per lap on Rentzell. By la p 102, Shorts had pulled alo ngs ide Ren tzell o n Road Atla nta's front straight. H e edged over and then passed for th e lead as th e two entered tu rn o ne, usin g traffic to put distan ce between him self and Rentzell. Shorts now p roceeded to put almos t two seconds a lap on Rentz ell, On lap 122, with two rem aining, Shorts, came by th e pits wi th a sp u tter i n g m otor and Rentzell gained slightly. On th e next lap, Sh or ts pitted to take on enough fuel to finish , leaving th e pits still in the lead. As Shorts headed for turn two, Ren tzell came do wn ou t of 12 holdin g a di stant second at this point. At the checkered it was Lockh art, . Kayo Racing, High T ech , J eff H erzog and Car ry Andrew on th e H yperCycle Racing Suzuki, and T eam Sanibel rounding o ut the top five. Lat e in th e race Paul Sm ith Racing threw a chai n as Front Row Racing took the GTU win foll owed by th e Asp halt Aviators, and Graham Clark and Troy Sor enson o n the T eam Uno FJ 600. ' " T he tire started to go away and 1 was slidi ng all over the p lace, " Kayo's Ren tzell said.
